Multi-Unit Franchisee Insight - Business Philosophy & Management Style

We talk to successful multi-unit operators regularly here at Franchise Update Media. These busy on-the-go people share great insight and wisdom with us through our profile stories in Multi-Unit Franchisee magazine. Here, from our archives, are some insightful responses from some of these franchisees.

What is your business philosophy?
Spend a lot of time up front researching the franchise you want to go into business with. Once you go into business, focus on executing the business model, not changing it.

How would you describe your management method or style?
Focus on the culture, mentor, train, communicate the expectation, and get out of the way. Let managers manage.
Bob Middleton, multi-unit franchisee of Little Caesars, Jersey Mike's Subs, Sonic Drive-In, and Del Taco

What is your business philosophy?
With everything we do, we seek to develop high-trust relationships with our stakeholders: our employees, parents, the children entrusted to our care, lenders, and members of the communities we serve. This commitment is the foundation for all of our decision-making.

How would you describe your management method or style?
Servant leadership is at the core of how we manage our business. Michael (husband) and I work alongside our campus management, teaching staff, and support staff. We will not ask our staff members to take on any work we have not done ourselves. This promotes a shared sense of purpose.
Lou Ann McLaughlin, multi-unit franchisee of Primrose Schools

What is your business philosophy?
Executing and taking the proper action to get things done quickly. If something needs to get done, we will do it. We are innovative through our ideas and the use of technology. We are early adopters of new technologies. We bring the efficiencies from these technological advancements to our bottom line to provide cost savings to our customers.

How would you describe your management method or style?
I am all about connecting. Face-to-face, heart-to-heart connections with other people have really helped me get to where I am today.
Jay Pandya, multi-unit operator of Pizza Hut, Checkers & Rally's, and Dunkin' Donuts
