Newk’s Eatery Gets A Fresh Look (But Keeps Serving Up Its Signature Menu)

Newk’s Eatery Gets A Fresh Look (But Keeps Serving Up Its Signature Menu)

For 15 years now Newk’s Eatery has served up its one-of-a-kind “scratch-made” menu to a growing base of dedicated fans. Now the company has introduced a new design and prototype restaurant based on extensive brand and customer research. The early feedback from customers and franchisees on the brand’s “Project Strive” initiative has been an enthusiastic thumbs up.

Newk’s Eatery brand execs are always eager to assess operational efficiencies and respond accordingly when markets change or demand something new. Newk’s Eatery Director of Design Rachael Myrick says the brand’s new design focus was on determining what guests want and expect when they visit a Newk’s Eatery. What they discovered was it was time for a refresh of the restaurant’s interior.

“Like many other concepts in the foodservice industry, it’s becoming necessary to look at a reduction in square footage and improvements to our labor model to combat higher rents and overhead expenses,” says Myrick. “This meant taking a deep look into how we could create a more efficient open kitchen and back of house, which ultimately led to the development of our new prototype layout.”

Newk’s Eatery left nothing on the table when developing this new design. Officials analyzed guest feedback, franchisee feedback, and other research to develop something that is truly unique and recognizable. The changes have resulted in reduced labor costs, and the addition of new kitchen equipment has brought additional savings and efficiencies. The result is a bright, family-friendly, updated environment that draws guests in without compromising the beloved experience guests are used to.

Elsewhere, the new contemporary and comfortable design features fresh new light fixtures, countertops and millwork, tufted booths, hardwood accents, new plate ware, and menu boards. Updated artwork tells the story of Newk’s roots as a homegrown brand with a passion for food and family, along with their purpose to “Strive To Make A Difference with every guest every day.”

Myrick says the new interior design provides a more upscale, yet comfortable setting for guests. The changes in the open kitchen layout now accommodate for more food prep to be front and center giving guests a glimpse of employees chopping, dicing, and preparing all of the brand’s fresh produce and ingredients.

Newk’s Eatery guests have always appreciated the brand for offering the perfect balance of wholesome, satisfying meals in a comfortable dining room. They also like ordering online or having meals delivered. Now, as a result of the brand’s carefully implemented refresh, there’s even more for customers to love about Newk’s Eatery.

“Guests have told us they love how open and bright everything feels with the new color scheme and we've received a lot of great feedback on our light fixtures and statement booth, which is a bold red, tufted booth,” says Myrick. “They also like how we've been able to tie in our philanthropic arm into the design with the bold teal tile wall.” Newk’s Eatery supports Ovarian Cancer Awareness through its philanthropy, Newk's Cares, which was established in 2014 after the ovarian cancer diagnosis of Newk’s Eatery CEO Chris Newcomb’s wife, Lori.

There was no better place to launch the rebrand initiative last month than in all seven of Newk’s Eatery’s restaurants in its home market of Jackson, Mississippi. Myrick says the brand will roll out the new design systemwide over the next 12-18 months.

If the Newk’s Eatery rebrand sounds exciting there’s no time like now to check out the investment opportunity. Development territories are available and there’s room for growth.
