Forbidden Flavours (Canada) Ltd Franchise Overview

About Forbidden Flavours (Canada) Ltd

FORBIDDEN FLAVOURS has been in operation since 1998. Head office is located on the corner of 34th Street and Victoria Avenue in Brandon, Manitoba. The combination of over 40 Nestles premium ice creams and 48 fresh roasted coffees has proven to be quite successful. The fact that their coffee is roasted right in their store only hours before it is sold, has opened the eyes of many people in Brandon and surrounding area. They have learned to appreciate the quality and freshness of the finest green beans from the finest coffee estates around the world. Forbidden Flavours Coffee Roastery and Ice Cream Shops are as one would say "a coffee lovers dream". It's as close to heaven as you'll get without wings! The unbelievable aroma that permeates throughout the store and watching the smoke billow out of the roaster only adds to the uniqueness of their stores. Forbidden Flavours' motto is to have the "FRESHEST COFFEE BEANS" available. Forbidden Flavours can offer that for two reasons. They roast only what is needed right on site. Therefore they have the quality control needed in order to offer you the freshest coffee possible. If coffee was ordered from another coffee roastery/company, it would be very difficult to determine how long it had been warehoused. All of Forbidden Flavours coffee beans are available for retail or wholesale and grinding is available.

Franchise History

Forbidden Flavours was established in 1998 by a husband and wife team, Jeff and Zita Dyke. Tired of working hard for everyone else, they decided to find a common business venture in which they could both partake in. Jeff, a former journeyman tinsmith and Zita, a graphic artist, poured their hearts into their dream. They researched the coffee industry and found it was one the fastest growing industries in Canada. They took it a couple of steps further by adding the fresh roast concept and hard ice cream. By adding the ice cream, it allowed them to capture the "whole family" concept. They have also added a new concept of Old Fashioned Candies which only contributes even more to their unique name. They started their first store in Brandon, Manitoba and they continued to expand, at first by helping other people getting started in the coffee industry in locations around rural Manitoba. They also started wholesaling to different restaurants and businesses as an add on to the company. Finding that there was a demand in the "Fresh Roast" and high quality coffee, they decided that maybe franchising would be the route to take. Although exciting and rewarding, getting the first Forbidden Flavours started was no easy task. During the first year of operations, 18 hour days were quite usual along with dragging their three year old to work at 6:30 in the morning and letting her sleep on chairs pulled together as a make-shift bed till she was ready to wake. Along with their three other children (all in school), they plugged away through their first year. After all, serving specialty coffees, roasting coffee, etc. was a new concept to this area. Then they were approached by a newly renovated mall in Brandon to put a coffee/ice cream kiosk. They sold it as a franchise to an interested friend. They also approached the Keystone Centre (Brandon Wheat Kings Hockey rink and Convention Centre) to do a portable Cappuccino Bar for all games and events and were accepted.
