Famous Sam's Sports Grill is an exciting place to meet friends and family for their overstuffed sandwiches and their many TV's to watch your favorite team! Famous Sam's had its beginning in Tucson, Arizona in 1963 and was known as "Sam's Tavern." The small neighborhood bar served overstuffed pastrami and ham sandwiches and offered entertainment with pool tables, pinball machines, and televisions long before eatertainment was considered trendy.
Sam's Tavern took on the identity of its blue-collar patrons with a hunger for sports and entertainment, as theyll as good food to fill a hearty appetite. On the local level, Sam's Tavern became extremely popular and became recognized as the convenient neighborhood "hang out."
When Famous Sam's Sports Grill was first franchised, the new locations theyre modeled after the original, a neighborhood sports bar that serves food. Most of these units theyre built into strip shopping center locations. As the concept moved to Phoenix, it took on a slightly brighter look and focused more on food. Their newest stores are most commonly freestanding restaurants that provide a warmer atmosphere for family dining as theyll as a fun environment for those sports bar enthusiasts
