Using the same recipe since 1970, Kolache Shoppe has served scratch-made kolaches and warm service to generations of Houstonians. A pastry comprised of fluffy, enriched dough and a sweet topping, kolache were first introduced to Texas by Czech immigrants in the 1800s, but the beloved pastry has evolved into a unique regional offering.

Learning the secrets of the best kolache in Houston from founder Erwin Ahrens, owners Randy and Lucy Hines took over the business in 2014, giving the Shoppe a much-needed refresh while honoring tradition and continuing to use Ahrens’ original recipes.

In addition to serving a variety of sweet kolaches, including classic apricot, poppy seed and cream cheese, the Shoppe offers savory klobasniky, with fillings such as sausage, egg and cheese, jalapeño kielbasa or smoked brisket, as well as a rotation of seasonal specials, collaborative flavors in partnership with local purveyors and premium coffee drinks using locally roasted coffee.
