Marble Slab Creamery was founded in October 1983 in Houston, Texas. It has since expanded to include stores across The United States of America, and Canada. It has also opened franchises in Puerto Rico, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, for a total of 545 "units."
The business earns its name from the frozen slab of rock on top of which candy and other toppings are mixed into the ice cream. Ironically, the slab is made of granite, not marble.
Marble Slab's ice cream and waffle cones are made fresh daily in each store. They contain no artificial flavors.
In 2007 Nexcen Brands acquired Marble Slab Creamery, Inc and Maggie Moo's International, LLC for a total combined initial purchase price of $37.1 million, plus a potential earn-out of up to $2 million on the MaggieMoo's acquisition. These two transactions mark the first acquisitions for NexCen in the quick service restaurant (QSR) sector, and establish the QSR operating platform for NexCen's third operating vertical, in addition to its consumer branded products and retail franchise based businesses.
