Paul Davis Restoration of North Dakota Restoring America project benefits elderly Wahpeton family

West Fargo area volunteers provide local family with much-needed home

May 03, 2006 // Franchising.com // West Fargo, ND – Paul Davis Restoration of North Dakota recently helped a local family in need of home repairs. As part of the parent company Paul Davis Restoration Inc.'s sixth annual 2006 "Paul Davis Restoring America" program, Paul Davis Restoration of North Dakota, donated time and materials to make improvements to Carl and Marie Oltman's home in Wahpeton. The project was completed on May 2 at 413 5 th Street South.

Paul Davis Restoring America—a building improvement initiative designed to provide restoration and repairs for those who cannot afford or are physically unable to fix up their structures — provides time, labor, and materials to a West Fargo-area beneficiary.

Paul Davis selected the family after receiving feedback from Wahpeton Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) coordinator Tom Bernotas. According to Bernotas, the Oltmans did not have the means or physical ability to build a ramp to gain entry into their home. "Paul Davis Restoration provided staff and volunteers to build the ramp, so that the Oltmans can now enter and exit their home in safety. We are very appreciative of Paul Davis Restoration's contribution to the Oltman family. Carl Oltman served our country as a veteran of foreign war and he deserves to live his life in safety and comfort," said Bernotas. Paul Davis Restoration of North Dakota provided the restoration services at no charge.

"The Oltmans are 100 percent disabled and have exhausted their monies between paying medical bills and small home repairs. The home was in great need of a front entryway ramp and the Oltmans did not have the financial means or the physical ability to do the job," said Melissa Braseth, Marketing Representative for Paul Davis Restoration of North Dakota. "Paul Davis is participating in 'Restoring America,' because we truly believe we can make a difference in the lives of this family by building a ramp for their safety and security," she said.

According to Scott Baker, president and CEO of Paul Davis Restoration Inc., the franchise company headquartered in Jacksonville, FL, "The North Dakota franchise's effort is an extension of the kind of services we perform every day. At Paul Davis, the foundation of our philosophy is built on meeting property owners' loss mitigation and restoration needs as quickly as possible. In the case of 'Restoring America,' this franchise—as do Paul Davis offices nationwide—saw a need and decided to voluntarily undertake the challenge."

Paul Davis Restoration of North Dakota which serves Cass, Clay, Grand Forks, and surrounding areas, identified significant design aspects in order to complete the ramp at the Oltman home. The structure required many ramps and landings to accommodate a narrow front yard. Overall, the functionality of the home was significantly improved.

"We know it was a significant amount of work to do in a couple of days," said Braseth. "However, with the strong collaborative effort of our Paul Davis and 'Restoring America' staff and volunteers, we knew we could do it," she said.
