WINCHESTER WEED MAN SUB-FRANCHISOR GROWS

Winchester, Virginia Weed Man sub-franchisor Bruce Sheppard recently sold the ninth dealership in his Mid-Atlantic territory. Sheppard inked the deal with Wade Herndon, a South Carolina businessman who now owns Weed Man franchises in Myrtle Beach and Charleston.

Sheppard owns exclusive Weed Man franchise rights to Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia, South Carolina and Washington, D.C. His is one of 13 sub-franchises which now have more than 100 franchise agreements covering 213 territories in the United States.

Prior to purchasing Weed Man sub-franchise rights, Sheppard owned a lawn care company in Ontario, Canada. In 2000 Sheppard purchased the Weed Man sub-franchise rights. Four years later he opened a Weed Man franchise in Winchester, Va.

"I had a chance to see firsthand the training and support provided to franchisees by Weed Man," explained Sheppard. "When the opportunity to purchase sub-franchise rights cropped up, I knew Weed Man would provide exceptional support in all areas of the
business."
Sheppard also knew how Weed Man dealt with its vendors because he had worked for one in Ontario, Canada before moving to Virginia. Weed Man is headquartered in Toronto.

"I got to know the company from the outside," said Sheppard. "I was really impressed by the company's marketing strategies and franchisee support in the Canadian market. I knew it would be the same in the U.S. market when they decided to expand."

Sheppard's son Brandon and wife Megann are involved in the Weed Man franchise and sub-franchise. Their plans include further expansion in the future.

Weed Man is the fastest growing lawn care franchise in the country. Rights to large geographic territories such as Sheppard's are purchased, sub-divided into dealerships and then sold individually.

Weed Man started in Toronto in 1970. It began selling Canadian franchises in 1976. By the mid-eighties, all Canadian franchises were sold. In 1996, Turf Holdings, Inc. began selling Weed Man sub-franchises in the United States.
