Local Couple Acquires Two Sylvan Learning Centers
Brian and Jennifer Huckins purchase centers in Burlingame and San Bruno, CA
September 04, 2008 // Franchising.com // San Francisco, CA and Baltimore, MD –– San Francisco Bay Area residents Brian and Jennifer Huckins today announced the purchase of the formerly corporate-owned Burlingame and San Bruno Sylvan Learning centers, the nation's leading provider of private tutoring for students in grades Pre-K through 12.
A San Francisco native, before joining Sylvan Brian enjoyed a successful career in the hotel business in downtown San Francisco. Jennifer was raised in Southern California and has been involved in the accounting and business management profession for the past 25 years. She currently owns and operates Windsor Accounting in Menlo Park, CA.
Brian and Jennifer were introduced to Sylvan Learning by Jennifer's family. Her mother previously owned two Sylvan centers outside Atlanta, GA and her brother currently owns two centers in Bakersfield, CA.
"We are excited about getting involved in the school communities surrounding the two centers," said Brian Huckins. "We feel that Sylvan can offer a wide variety of customized tutoring services and educational support to the K-12 grades in these areas."
Under the Huckins' leadership, the centers will offer a full range of in-center and online tutoring for children in grades Pre-K through 12, including homework support and high school and SAT/ACT test preparation. Seasonal group instruction classes are also available to students including math camp, writing camp and study skills camp.
The sale of the Burlingame and San Bruno centers, located at 1200 Howard Avenue in Burlingame and 751 Camino Plaza in San Bruno, represents a move by Sylvan Learning to focus on franchising to local entrepreneurs and business operators.
