Sylvan Learning, Inc. Welcomes New Franchisee In Las Vegas

Frank & Carole Grant Join Pioneer of Supplemental Education to Help Las Vegas Children

BALTIMORE, Aug. 5 // PRNewswire // -- Sylvan Learning, Inc., North America's most recognized provider of supplemental education, announced today a new franchisee in Las Vegas. Frank and Carole Grant have purchased the Sylvan Learning centers located at 1701 N. Green Valley Parkway, Building 8, Suite C, Hendersonville, NV and 1181 Buffalo Drive, Suite 120, Las Vegas, NV.

These centers have served thousands of Las Vegas area children for more than 22 years and will continue to provide in-center, online and at-home tutoring to students of all ages, grades and skill levels. Frank and Carole's son, Frank Grant IV, and his wife, Karen Grant, will manage the two Las Vegas centers. Karen is an experienced teacher and tutor in Las Vegas, and Frank IV is a partner with Kennedy Commercial, a development firm. They hope to expand and purchase an additional, adjacent territory in the next two years.

"We are pleased to be a part of such a beneficial, proven concept whose mission is to provide every student with the skills, habits and attitudes needed for lifelong success," said Frank Grant III. "These Las Vegas centers have a history of providing quality supplemental education programs and are ingrained in the community. We look forward to continuing to play an important role in the daily lives of the families who live, work and learn here."

Prior to joining Sylvan, Grant spent 30 years with MWH Global, retiring as Senior Vice President. With a background in civil and environmental engineering, he managed large water and wastewater engineering projects in California, the Philippines and Jordan. He also served as a Captain in the U.S. Army. Grant earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Stanford University and his doctorate from University of California at Berkeley. Carole Grant earned her bachelor's degree from Stanford University and her master's degree from Towson State in Maryland. She has taught in Baltimore, MD; Oakland, CA; and in the Philippines. In addition to having lifetime teaching credentials, she has experience in finance management and tax preparation.

"Sylvan Learning is a good fit for our family. We believe strongly in education and welcomed the opportunity to purchase two existing corporate centers that are already up and running and have well-qualified staff," said Grant III. "We plan to expand our community involvement and develop scholarship opportunities and sponsorships in order to benefit the Las Vegas community and our students."

"Sylvan Learning is excited to welcome the Grants into the Sylvan family," says Curt Hapward, Sylvan Learning's vice president for franchising. "Under their leadership, Sylvan will continue to satisfy a growing demand in Las Vegas for high quality, individualized supplemental education."
