Home Instead Senior Care Expands Into Italy

March 10, 2011 // Franchising.com // OMAHA, Neb. – Home Instead Senior Care®, the world's largest provider of non-medical in-home care and companionship services for seniors, has expanded into Italy.

Pier Paolo ("Paul") Miniussi of Torino, Italy has been awarded the Master Franchise rights for the country. His territory will encompass northern Italy, including the cities of Torino – where the pilot office is located – Milan and Venice. When fully developed, this territory will feature between 100 and 125 franchise units whose staff and CAREGiversSM will arrange and provide in-home care and companionship services for older adults, said Yoshino Nakajima, Chief Development Officer for Home Instead, Inc.

Home Instead Senior Care services include companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands, medication reminders and personal care (where allowed). These services are offered through more than 900 locally owned and operated franchises worldwide. The addition of Italy represents the 16th international market that Home Instead offers their services.

Ms. Nakajima said the needs of seniors worldwide continue to fuel expansion for the organization. "A global age wave is taking place and with it comes an increasing demand for services that allow seniors to remain in the place they most desire, at home."

Miniussi's understanding of the the needs of seniors is based on his own personal experience. He was a caregiver for his father, who suffered from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Prior to becoming a Home Instead Senior Care Master Franchisee he owned and operated a successful IT staffing firm.

Currently there are about 12 million older adults over the age of 65 in Italy representing more than 20 percent of the population. By 2050, the population of seniors is expected to increase by more than 44 percent.

"The Home Instead Senior Care network is proud to provide seniors in Italy the support they need to remain safe and independent wherever they call home," Nakajima said.
