Staybridge Suites Brings New Interior Design Scheme Created by Nation's Top Design Students to Three New Properties

Hotels in Tyler and San Antonio, Texas, and near Syracuse, N.Y., Feature New Designs Created by Savannah College of Art and Design Students

April 04, 2011 // Franchising.com // ATLANTA - IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) [LON: IHG, NYSE: IHG (ADRs)], the world's largest hotel group by number of rooms, announced today the openings of three new Staybridge Suites hotels, all featuring the new innovative design created by Savannah College of Art and Design's (SCAD) interior design students. Home to one of the top five interior-design programs in the country, the school partnered with IHG to completely refresh the Staybridge Suites standardized room-décor packages.

Three new hotels - Staybridge Suites Tyler University Area, Texas, which opened in January; Staybridge Suites San Antonio Stone Oak, scheduled to open in April; and Staybridge Suites Syracuse Liverpool (N.Y.), also scheduled to open in April - will all feature the Vista design scheme, which focuses on fresh color, organic patterns and subtle textures. They join the first hotel to open with the new SCAD designs, Staybridge Suites Houston Stafford-Sugar Land, which opened in December 2010.

"The SCAD students provided outstanding insight for us, not only through their design expertise, but also because they represent the next generation of business travelers," said Robert Radomski, vice president, Global Brand Management, Extended-Stay Brands, IHG. "Our owners started signing up for the new designs as soon as they were available, which reflects the high level of interest and excitement the new schemes have created."

With the new SCAD designs, each room includes several features intended to reduce environmental impact:

  • Kitchen counter tops and bathroom vanities are made of quartz, an abundant natural mineral that is virtually maintenance free and requires no chemical sealing.
  • Modular carpet tiles are 100 percent recyclable and produce less waste upon installation and replacement.
  • Low-VOC paint throughout the suites helps eliminate toxic airborne chemicals.
  • Tile selections incorporate pre- and/or post-consumer recycled material.
  • Many fabrics will be dyed and printed in a revolutionary process that does not require water, meaning leftover chemicals won't be sent into the environment.

The urban yet elegant 135-room Staybridge Suites located in the Stone Oak suburb of San Antonio is just seven miles north of San Antonio International Airport and near attractions such as Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Sea World San Antonio and The Alamo. Located in what has been called the new downtown of San Antonio, the Staybridge Suites San Antonio Stone Oak is a $20 million development that has a 10,000-square-foot deck with heated pool, Jacuzzi, Outdoor Living Room with fireplace and TV, plus barbecue pavilions and several spacious seating areas. Several key businesses such as Tesoro Corporation, JP Morgan Chase and Clear Channel are near the five-story hotel, which has meeting space that can accommodate up to 50 people. The Staybridge Suites San Antonio Stone Oak is owned by Montex Real Estate Co. LLC and managed by Dellisart LLC under a license agreement with a company in the InterContinental Hotels Group.

The five-story Staybridge Suites Syracuse Liverpool, located just six miles north of Syracuse, N.Y., offers 123 suites, including 41 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom suites. Located off Interstate 90, it is five miles from Syracuse University and close to offices and facilities of major corporations including ADP, Lockheed Martin and Anheuser Busch. In addition to a boardroom that can accommodate 12, the hotel has access to 30,000 square feet of meeting space at the connecting Holiday Inn Convention Center Hotel. The Staybridge Suites Syracuse Liverpool is owned by The First Republic Corporation of America and managed by Advanced Hotel Management under a license agreement with a company in the InterContinental Hotels Group.

The recently-opened 86-room Staybridge Suites Tyler University Area includes an indoor pool and an Outdoor Living Room with covered pavilion area, two large grills, a fireplace, large screen TV, lounge chairs and tables with umbrellas located in the stately courtyard. The hotel also features a 2,200-square-foot meeting area that can accommodate up to 175 people. Located just one-and-a-half hours east of Dallas in the scenic Piney Woods of East Texas, the hotel is a mile away from the University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior College. It is near the corporate offices of Ingersoll Rand, Baker Hughes, XTO Energy and CB&I. The three-story property is owned by Loop 323 Lodging and managed by 281 Management under a license agreement with a company in the InterContinental Hotels Group.

The new SCAD designs take into account the unique needs of the extended-stay traveler, including flexibility and storage. Ottoman cubes provide extra seating and storage space, with upholstered tops that can be flipped over to support a laptop or food and drinks. A desk hutch has been added to the existing work surface, providing guests with the ability to store items and customize their workspace, and a built-in closet unit provides customizable shelving for clothing and luggage. Additional flexibility has been incorporated into the studio suites, where the extended nightstand functions as an added work surface and vanity area, and a bench stored underneath can serve as seating or double as a dressing bench.
