Ben & Jerry's Brings Out its Best for National Ice Cream Month

BURLINGTON, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Summertime is here, folks! As July sneaks up on us it brings along an annual occasion that gives many an excuse to treat themselves: National Ice Cream Month. Hmmm…a month long, all-encompassing ice cream celebration during one of the hottest months of the year? It must have been Albert Einstein who came up with that idea!

We're thankful for the brilliant thinker- Albert Einstein or not- who created this month-long holiday, and to the heat of the July sun for making the holiday so appropriate. So look out beaches and backyard barbeques! Ben & Jerry's is bringing the funk and the noise as its version of rolling thunder appears in Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops across the country – and on the shelves of your local retailer in pints. Here are the five newest flavors making their debut in summer 2011:

Fair Goodness Cake - Guten Tag! This German Chocolate Cake flavor has Fair Trade Certified® chocolate ice cream, big ooey-gooey gobs of German Chocolate Cake and a coconut caramel swirl that will have you i-screaming for more. This limited batch flavor won't be around for long, so get it while it's hot! Er, we mean cool.

Late Night Snack – Not for a long time has a new full-time flavor plowed its way to the top like this combination. Meet Late Night Snack, as inspired by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon: a salty-sweet combination that has set the bar for super-premium ice cream with a salted caramel swirl and fudge covered potato chip clusters. Honestly. And while the flavor is a tasty triumph to the tongue satisfying Jimmy's late night viewers near and far, it also gives back by using two Fair Trade ingredients. Jimmy loves it, America digs it, and we know once you try it, you'll add it to your favorites too.

Red Velvet Cake – Red Velvet Cake is red hot! The Research and Development team works hard to stay in touch with what's hot and what's not, and this one is at the peak of popularity. "This has been a tremendous flavor for us already this season," said R & D Chief Leo Aquino. "It just tastes like what you'd expect a classic Ben & Jerry's flavor would taste like," says R & D Chief Leo Aquino. "The combination of chunks, the velvety cream cheese swirls, along with the sweet and berry nuances makes it a perfect summer flavor."

Bonnaroo Buzz – Named after the legendary Bonnaroo music festival in Tennessee, and developed with a nod to that locale featuring a whisky-caramel swirl (don't worry, the whiskey is cooked out…), this coffee and malt ice cream will make you want to rock on all night after just one scoop! And with English toffee pieces mixed in, you'll find it hard to resist.

What a Cluster - This peanut butter ice cream is mixed with chunky caramel cluster pieces and swirled with peanut butter and marshmallow ribbons. Chill out this summer and give yourself a pick-me-up peanut buttery break!

National Ice Cream Month is the perfect time to lay back, relax and let the rat race pass you by. Stop by your local Ben & Jerry's scoop shop or grab a pint at a local food store and dig your way into some hot weather euphoria. Have a great summer!
