Doctors Express Acquired by Two Visionary Health Care Companies

Urgent care franchisor strengthens leadership, prepares for growth.

Towson, MD (PRWEB) March 05, 2012 - Doctors Express, the first ever national urgent care franchise, has been acquired by Phoenix-based Immediate Clinic, LLC and The Ensign Group, Inc., based in Mission Viejo, Calif. The acquisition will infuse the resources and leadership experience to accelerate the company’s strategic growth plans.

Doctors Express will continue to operate under the same name. The executive team will remain with the company serving on the Board of Directors, and Dr. Scott Burger will continue in the role of Medical Director.

Immediate Clinic’s seasoned urgent care executive team is led by Dr. John Shufeldt, founder and former CEO of NextCare, one of the nation's largest and most successful privately-owned providers of urgent care and occupational medical services. Immediate Clinic is backed by The Ensign Group, Inc., the parent company of the EnsignTM group of skilled nursing, rehabilitative care services, hospice care and assisted living companies.

With Immediate Clinic’s leadership and Ensign’s resources, Doctors Express will be able to fulfill its mission of redefining the patient experience by eliminating long waits associated with doctor’s office or emergency room visits.

"We are very excited to have Dr. Shufeldt, one of the most respected individuals in the urgent care industry, and his team on board to help us aggressively pursue our goal of being the national leader in urgent care," said Peter Ross, Doctors Express CEO. "It's a privilege to partner with The Ensign Group and Immediate Clinic as they will help us reach new heights in providing top-quality urgent care service across the United States.”

“Doctors Express has done a great job growing the business, providing state-of-the-art urgent medical care, and supporting franchisees across the country,” said Dr. Shufeldt of Immediate Clinic. “I see a lot of potential for Doctors Express and we intend to pursue a variety of innovative strategies to provide customer and quality-centric urgent care and occupational medical services.” “Kathleen Huntsman, Doctors’ Express Vice President of Operations, and her team have built this organization from the ground up and we are thrilled to join her hard-working group!”

Doctors Express and Immediate Clinic's state-of-the-art walk-in centers offer daily access to health care for minor injuries and illnesses, including X-ray and lab services, all from convenient neighborhood locations; no appointment needed. Design and construction planning for multiple new corporate-owned Doctors Express centers is currently underway.

Currently, there are 49 Doctors Express centers up and running throughout the country. A total of 143 franchises have been awarded in 24 states and 85 will be operating by the end of the year. The long term goal is to have 1,000 Doctors Express centers across the nation so that a recognizable, reliable healthcare option is available wherever you travel in the U.S.
