Jersey Mike's Subs Opens Second Location in Beaverton

Owners Celebrate Beaverton Opening with Free Subs

February 19, 2013 // Franchising.com // Beaverton, OR - Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, opened its second restaurant in the state of Oregon in Beaverton on Wednesday, February 13, just one week after its first restaurant in the state opened in Portland.

Franchise owners and brothers-in-law, Eric S. Heikkala and Billy Ray Reeves, II, held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, February 13 to Sunday, February 17 to support Beaverton High School Athletic Programs. This is the first of 5 to 6 restaurants that the pair expect to open in Washington County.

To commemorate the opening of the new restaurant located in Canyon Place, at 4105 SW 117th Ave, the owners circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community, offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution Beaverton High School Athletic Programs.

Reeves, a United States Army Special Operations Veteran, did three tours of duty in Afghanistan, and received a Bronze Star Medal in 2009. Reeves and Heikkala chose Jersey Mike’s to begin the next phase of their careers because of the company’s high level of community involvement, especially with the schools.

“What I love about Jersey Mike’s Subs is that they are enveloped in the Flag,” said Reeves. “The CEO has a big heart and supports grassroots efforts. We wanted to get involved with the community immediately starting with our grand opening, which is why we chose to partner with the local school which is just down the street. I played soccer and ran track in high school and I believe sports prepared me well for my time in the military. It seemed like a natural fit to support the athletic program.”

Jersey Mike’s is known for its authentic East Coast-style subs, made Mike’s Way™ with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices. The company only uses private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread. Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike's more than fifty years ago. The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.

“We are looking forward to becoming a part of this community and working with the many families who live here,” said Heikkala. “Beaverton is a great town and we plan to open additional Jersey Mike’s restaurants over the next two years.”

Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s wins best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.

The history of the company is one of entrepreneurship and giving back. CEO Peter Cancro started the company at age 17, before he was even legally able to slice a sub. The company remains committed to making a difference in the communities it serves. Since 2010, locations throughout the country have raised more than $5 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

Jersey Mike's continued its steady growth in 2012 opening 92 new restaurants throughout the country, a 33 percent increase in new store growth over 2011.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. You can contact this store directly at 971- 228-5088.
