Good Earth Coffeehouse & Bakery Supports Nature Conservancy of Canada

CALGARY, ALBERTA - (Marketwired - April 15, 2013) - Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery, a company of environmentally responsible specialty coffeehouses, is partnering with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), to raise funds for NCC's conservation work in Canada.

Throughout the month of April, customers of all 36 Good Earth locations in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan can purchase bags of whole beans, or cups, of Rulindo Cooperative Organic coffee, with proceeds going to NCC.

Good Earth has imported this coffee from Rwanda especially for our NCC promotion, which is in place throughout April, or until the Rulindo coffee is gone.

Rulindo coffee is grown near Lake Kivu on the steep slopes of volcanic mountains, near villages where the COOPAC Cooperative is committed to environmental and social responsibility, and where its members help build schools, health clinics, roads and bridges. The coffee has a subtle floral aroma and a brown-sugar sweetness with a clean finish.

NCC is the nation's leading private land conservation organization, working to protect our natural areas and the plants and animals they sustain.

"Since 1991 Good Earth has made environmental responsibility a part of its mission," says Nan Eskenazi, Co-founder of Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery. "Partnering with the Nature Conservancy of Canada is a natural fit for us. We are honored to be supporting NCC, who is working to protect valuable natural areas throughout Canada. We encourage everyone to be a force for nature and enjoy our Rulindo Cooperative Organic coffee. By the cup or by the bag, proceeds from this coffee go to NCC."

Our Green Choices Make A Big Statement About Our Company

For over 20 years, choosing green has been the right choice for Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery, because environmental responsibility is part of our mission.

Greener Energy

All locations are 100 percent wind powered through Bullfrog Power, a leading Canadian provider of 100 percent green electricity. Good Earth purchases over 1,656 MWh of clean, renewable power for our cafes each year. This reduces our environmental footprint by over 938 tonnes of CO2 per year. Since 2007 we have reduced our carbon footprint by over 4,500 tonnes.

Greener Packaging and Resource Reduction

Compostable Cups. We serve our exceptional coffee and food in cups and containers made with 100% renewable tree and plant resources. These cups and containers can be composted in commercial composting facilities.

Recycled Content

Our cup sleeves are made from 100% recycled content and can be composted or recycled. We also use EcoLogo-certified paper products, including napkins, bathroom tissue and paper towels. By choosing SCA's EcoLogo-certified products, Good Earth has saved 294,848 gallons of water, 128 cubic yards of landfill space, 172,697 kilowatts of energy, 16,006 gallons of oil, 2,527 lbs. of air pollutants and 716 trees.
