HoneyBaked Customers Show They Care, Providing More Than 720,000 Meals to Help the Hungry

More than $90,000 Raised, Far Exceeding Goal in Partnership with Feeding America®

ATLANTA, Ga. (PRWEB) May 29, 2013 - HoneyBaked customers dug deep into their hearts and their pockets to help the hungry this past winter, when the premium food retailer joined forces with Feeding America®, the nation’s leading anti-hunger organization, with a goal of providing 100,000 meals. Between February 27 and March 27, HoneyBaked customers not only reached that goal, but increased it more than 700 percent to 720,000 donated meals*. One hundred percent of the donations went to Feeding America®, which can provide eight meals for every dollar donated at a national level.

“We are so grateful and humbled by the generosity of our customers,” said Maggie DeCan, COO of HoneyBaked of Georgia. “Hunger is a year-round struggle for many families, and our customers opened their hearts to provide much-needed help, while also helping maintain awareness of this continuous need in the communities where we do business. Thank you, to each and every HoneyBaked customer who gave $1 or $5 or more to help feed a family in need.”

To officially launch the program, HoneyBaked donated 4,000 pounds of ham (10,000 immediate meals)** in the Washington, D.C. area, where one in five children is at risk of or experiencing hunger.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, in 2011, 50.1 million Americans lived in food-insecure households, which include 33.5 million adults and 16.7 million children. Feeding America cites unemployment as a leading predictor of food insecurity.

“It is increasingly difficult for many American families to put food on the table,” said Leah Ray, vice president of corporate partnerships at Feeding America. “Many times they must turn to local food banks, many of which experience a decline in donations during this time of year."
