First DQ Grill & Chill® Restaurant Opens on Long Island
New restaurant serves up Dairy Queen® iconic soft-serve treats, flavorful foods and Orange Julius® offerings.
July 10, 2013 // Franchising.com // MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. – The Dairy Queen® system’s newest, most exciting restaurant concept opened its doors at 5366 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa, across the street from Sunrise Mall. The new 3,000 square-foot DQ Grill & Chill® restaurant added 45 new jobs, contributing to Massapequa’s employment growth. The new restaurant also will contribute to the state’s restaurant sales, which according to the National Restaurant Association are projected to increase by 3.9 percent this year.
The opening marks the first Long Island-based DQ location since the 1970’s; the chain has been absent from the area since then.
“We are excited to open the first full-service DQ Grill & Chill restaurant in Massapequa and Long Island and welcome everyone in to enjoy our full menu of cravable food items, cool treats and Orange Julius® drinks,” said restaurant operator Laura Maier. “We’re so excited to re-introduce the DQ system’s iconic treats to the community and introduce the DQ Grill & Chill concept.”
An Array of Menu Options
The DQ Grill & Chill concept blends the best of DQ® iconic history with the most modern innovations in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry. The food menu features the quarter- and half-pound GrillBurgerTM made-to-order, as well as other delicious and unique food items, including deli-style Iron Grilled Sandwiches. Other menu offerings include Grilled or Crispy Chicken Sandwiches and Salads; Chicken Strip Baskets; Shrimp Baskets; Quesadillas and Chili Cheese Dogs.
A new deal is the $5 Buck Lunch, available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating locations. Fans have a choice of a quarter-pound GrillBurger with cheese, 3-piece Chicken Strip Lunch or a Chili Cheese Dog, which are all served with fries, a beverage and choice of a sundae. For just $1 more, fans also have the option to upgrade their small sundae to a small Blizzard® Treat, such as the hot-selling S’mores Blizzard Treat that launched earlier this month. The offer may vary in Texas.
Complementing the “Grill” is the “Chill,” with the traditional and indulgent Dairy Queen soft-serve treats everybody knows and loves. Along with all of the DQ favorites, such as the signature Blizzard Treats, MooLatté® frozen blended coffee beverages, DQ Cakes and waffle bowl sundaes and cones, fans can choose from a variety of fruit-blended beverages, including delicious Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies and now Orange Julius Light Smoothies. All Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies and Julius® Original drinks are available in eight flavors including Orange, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Tripleberry®, Mango Pineapple, Berry-Pom, OrangeBerry and Piña Colada and protein or banana boosts can be added. The Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies are made fresh to order with real fruit blended with low-fat yogurt. The Orange Julius Light Smoothies are 170 calories or less in a small size, contain no artificial sweeteners or flavors and are yogurt free.
Design and Décor
The DQ Grill & Chill restaurant interior brings an innovative dimension to QSR dining. Highlighted by the modern open-air grill and separate “Grill” and “Chill” sections, the restaurant features comfortable booths, a stone fireplace, flat screen television, large wooden tables, warm lighting, music and an overall inviting environment.
The restaurant can seat 85 guests inside and also offers a convenient drive-thru window.
