GMA anchors Sam Champion, Lara Spencer, Josh Elliot and actor/comedian Sherrod Small each created their own customized pie in a pizza face-off, before Blaze Pizza Executive Chef Brad Kent sampled each and declared one the custom pizza champion.
Just like at Blaze Pizza, each anchor’s pizza dough was pressed fresh for their order, and topped with a Blaze signature sauce and various cheeses, including mozzarella, ricotta, goat and feta. Then, each anchor let their imagination (and tastebuds!) take over, topping their custom pizzas with their choice of Blaze’s more than 40 classic and artisan toppings, including applewood smoked bacon, fresh arugula and roasted red peppers.
Pizzas were then cooked in mobile pizza ovens, although each Blaze Pizza restaurant utilizes an open-flame oven which cooks pizzas in a scant 120 seconds. After each of the anchors’ pizzas were sampled, Chef Brad declared Sherrod the winner with his “Sherrodi” pizza, topped with various Blaze Pizza meats and cheeses, including ham, pepperoni, applewood smoked bacon and more.

Guests watch as each perfectly proofed dough ball is pressed into a generous 12-inch crust. Next, they travel down the service line to “co-create” a signature pizza or design one of their own -- with over 40 artisanal toppings to choose from.
