October 29, 2013 // Franchising.com // McLEAN, Va. – Embassy Suites Hotels and Sun Development & Management Corporation are pleased to announce the appointment of Jeff Fowlkes as general manager and Linda Olson as director of sales at Embassy Suites Elizabeth – Newark Airport in New Jersey, scheduled to open in January 2014. Fowlkes and Olson collectively bring years of hospitality experience to their new roles, both having previously worked at hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio. A team of approximately 50 team members is expected to join them upon the hotel’s opening.

Fowlkes brings more than 20 years of extensive hospitality experience to this position. He is a thirteen-year Hilton Worldwide veteran and has held general manager and regional positions since 2003. Fowlkes was named one of the top 100 most influential African American hoteliers during his first general manager assignment at Hilton Tarrytown. He has been instrumental in the conversion of several properties to Hilton Worldwide products and also served as the food and beverage cluster lead for North and South Carolina with multi-property oversight in this discipline. Fowlkes earned the titles of Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) and Certified Food & Beverage Executive (CFBE) from the American Hotel & Lodging Association. In addition, he holds general manager certifications with the Hilton, DoubleTree and Embassy Suites brands.
Olson has been part of Hilton Worldwide since 2006, when she joined Hilton Newark Airport as senior sales manager. While in that role, Olson consistently exceeded ADR and revenue goals and led the hotel to receive top customer service scores. She also participated in the successful creation of the Hilton Entertainment Network (HEN), a small group of Hilton properties that share best practices and database information related to working with high profile performers and production crews visiting the New York and New Jersey area. Olson’s previous experience with developing prosperous sales strategies laid the groundwork for her to be successful in her new role determining a strategic yet aggressive sales approach for the newly constructed hotel in a very competitive market.
