As USDA Nutrition Standards Approach, Fresh Healthy Vending Franchisees Gain Momentum in Schools

(OTC Markets: VEND), North America's leading healthy vending franchisor, continues to increase its presence on school campuses across the nation, as students and faculty become subject to changes in snack offerings, due to federal regulations imposed by the USDA this July. With these regulations taking effect this summer, the company is finding success in the procurement of more school locations and receiving positive feedback from franchisees in regions throughout the U.S.

As part of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, the new nutrition standards require all U.S. schools to sell only food items that meet certain requirements, in relation to their calories, ingredients, sodium, fat and sugar. In conjunction with these standards, Fresh Healthy Vending has been successful in integrating a wellness program meant to encourage positive perceptions of "healthy snacks" on campus and educate both students and faculty of Fresh Healthy Vending's initiatives, machines, and products; which align with this new mandate.

The company has an extensive list of snacks that meet and exceed these requirements, and has recently compiled variations of "planograms", or customized menus, consisting of these snack products to fill entire vending machines, all in line with the new standards set forth by the USDA.

Ron Hubp of Florida and Sean Watko of Pennsylvania are two of the 18 franchisees whose machines were installed in schools last month.

"Providing Fresh Healthy Vending to schools has been a two step process: School districts deciding to offer healthy vending choices to their students and, of greater importance, acceptance by their students," said Watko, of his franchise, Pittsburgh Natural. "It didn't take long to discover that the demand for Knudsen's Strawberry Lemonade, Back to Nature Cookies, and BBQ Popchips were big favorites. We've tripled our stock to keep up with the demand as these items are often depleted within a day."

As part of its franchise program, Fresh Healthy Vending's location procurement department secures contracts for its franchisees' healthy snack machines in prime school locations nationwide to then be owned and operated by that region's franchisee.

We practice a healthier lifestyle at home and in our personal lives, so when we saw the opportunity to help educate and offer a healthier alternative to our community, through the vending industry, we jumped in with both feet," said Hubp, of his franchise, H&H Fresh Snacks. "We currently have five of our 10 machines placed in schools. I have to say, we are pleasantly overwhelmed with the success of the machines in the school locations and the sales of the products," said Hubp. "We are having to restock certain items every other day and look forward to continuing to work with our school locations on the right healthy product mix for their students."
