Heartland Pro Bono Council Honors Brent Taylor for Service to Homeless Residents

April 18, 2014 // Franchising.com // Indianapolis - Brent Taylor of Faegre Baker Daniels was honored with the 2014 Heartland Pro Bono Award in recognition of his many years of service with the Indianapolis Bar Association's Homeless Project.

Taylor has donated his time and legal expertise to the Homeless Project since its inception more than 20 years ago. The project facilitates visits by attorney volunteers to five local homeless shelters each month to offer pro bono legal advice and, at times, limited representation.

Through his work with the Homeless Project, Taylor has provided pro bono legal assistance to nearly 200 homeless shelter residents who could not otherwise afford counsel. His service has included representing residents at court hearings and drafting small claims petitions.

A partner in FaegreBD's business litigation group and a committed volunteer, Taylor has also recruited and inspired other FaegreBD attorneys to participate in the Homeless Project.

Marion Superior Court Judge David Shaheed, chairman and president of the Heartland Pro Bono Council, presented the award to Taylor during the Indiana University McKinney School of Law's 2014 Awards and Recognition Reception for Pro Bono & Clinical Programs on April 17. The event featured Indiana Supreme Court Judge Loretta Rush as a guest speaker.

Founded in 2002, the Heartland Pro Bono Council recruits and trains attorneys to represent low-income individuals with civil legal needs and connects those individuals to volunteer attorneys.
