Norm Tabler Honored With Burton Award for Legal Writing

April 28, 2014 // Franchising.com // Indianapolis, 96th Street - Norman G. Tabler of Faegre Baker Daniels has been selected to receive a 2014 Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing.

The Burton Awards, a nonprofit run in association with the Library of Congress and its law library, selected 30 winners from nominations submitted by the nation's 1,000 largest law firms. The program, which marks its 15th year in 2014, rewards achievements in law, with a special emphasis on writing and reform.

Tabler's winning article, "Advantages of Captive Insurance Programs for Health Systems (And Not Just Lower Premiums)," appeared in 2013 in The Health Lawyer, the primary publication of the American Bar Association's Health Law Section. It describes the benefits of captive insurance programs to hospital systems and their medical staffs.

Award winners will be honored at a ceremony on June 9 at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The program will feature Chief Judge Robert A. Katzmann of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and will include a performance by Jay Leno.

Tabler, counsel in FaegreBD's health care practice, advises on health law, public-private partnerships, risk management and insurance in the health care field. He has practiced with FaegreBD - including as the first chair of the health law practice - for 25 years collectively, and served as general counsel for Indiana University Health from 1996-2012. Tabler has written widely on health law issues and serves on Law360's Health Editorial Advisory Board.
