Bojangles' Raises more than $34,000 For Public Education in South Carolina

August 13, 2014 // Franchising.com // Lexington, S.C. - Bojangles' announced that, with the support of its loyal customers, Bojangles' restaurants across South Carolina raised more than $34,000 for public education during Teacher Appreciation Month in May. Bojangles' presented a check for funds raised to nonprofit partner South Carolina Future Minds during a special Bojangles' breakfast in Lexington, S.C. this morning.

The funds raised will help South Carolina Future Minds support the 700,000 students, 50,000 teachers and nearly 1,200 schools in South Carolina's public education system. This is the fifth year that Bojangles', a founding sponsor of South Carolina Teacher Appreciation Month, has held the statewide fundraiser. Bojangles' invited customers to honor teachers who have made a difference in their lives by purchasing $1 and $5 paper apples that were displayed in the restaurants with the teachers' names.

"Within our Bojangles' family, we share countless stories of the positive impact that caring teachers have had in our lives, so each year we look forward to supporting the teachers who continue to make a difference every day," said Bojangles' President and CEO Clifton Rutledge. "We thank our generous customers, without whom this fundraiser would not be possible, and our partners at South Carolina Future Minds for the opportunity to support their efforts."

During Teacher Appreciation Month, South Carolinians were also invited to enter a teacher for a chance to win a Caribbean cruise provided by Bojangles' on www.scfutureminds.org. Today at the Bojangles' breakfast and Teacher Appreciation Month check presentation event, Lexington Technology Center teacher Robert Bollier was surprised to learn that he was nominated and randomly selected to win the free vacation. Bollier is also the recipient of South Carolina Future Mind's 2013 Charlie S. Dickerson Community Service Award.

In addition to sponsoring Teacher Appreciation Month, Bojangles' is a major supporter of the state's Teacher of the Year program, having donated more than 13,500 books to the schools of District Teachers of the Year since 2010. To date, Bojangles' and its customer have raised more than $97,000 in support of public education in South Carolina.

"When it comes to supporting public education in South Carolina, every dollar given, book donated and story of an impactful teacher shared makes a difference," said South Carolina Future Minds Executive Director Trip DuBard. "We are thankful for committed partners like Bojangles'. This year, the more than $34,000 raised by Bojangles' and its customers will help South Carolina teachers provide a better learning experience for thousands of students from the Upstate to the Lowcountry – that's something everyone can be proud of."
