Leading Tennis Activation Model Launches First Massachusetts Franchise

USPTA and PTR Professional set to bring TGA Premier Youth Tennis school-based programs to Southern Boston

September 30, 2014 // Franchising.com // Boston, MA – TGA Premier Youth Tennis (TGA), a partner with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and a leading activation model to develop and bring new tennis players into the sport, has established its first Massachusetts franchise territory.

Peter Dunlop, a technology and telecommunications executive, has acquired the geographic rights to TGA in the Southern Boston area, which will start with school-based programs in Plymouth County.

Dunlap has been an active tennis player most of his life and still plays competitively in USTA team events along with getting his United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certifications two years ago. Dunlap also coached high school tennis and taught tennis clinics for youth and adults at area recreation centers.

"My inspiration for TGA began while teaching youth clinics and seeing the smiles on the kids' faces and the positive impact I was having on them, and realizing that I could turn this into a successful business and career opportunity," Dunlap said.

TGA's innovative school-based activation model and tennis enrichment curriculum was developed in partnership with the USTA just over three years ago. With tennis being one of the most played adult sports and least played by youth, TGA's model is helping to bring new players into the sport as the baby boomer generation ages.

The program, which introduces the sport in schools and community centers, supports the USTA's "10-and-Under Tennis" initiative while transitioning the participants to USTA programs, tennis facilities and USPTA Professionals nationwide, has already activated over 20,000 youth tennis players and families across the country.

"We are thrilled about launching our first TGA program in Massachusetts and continuing our steady growth in the Northeast," Joshua Jacobs, CEO of TGA said. "For every new territory we launch with the USTA, it brings the opportunity to activate thousands of new tennis players."

"Peter's passion for tennis and experience teaching youth make him the perfect candidate to develop a successful and sustaining business that will enrich the lives of youth and grow tennis in his community."

TGA Premier Youth Tennis of Plymouth County is expected to engage thousands of participants and families by introducing the sport to children at 70+ elementary and middle schools, child care centers and community based organizations via a multi-level instruction curriculum that includes physical fitness, health and nutrition, education and character building.

TGA, through its physical fitness and health components including the USTA's "Lets Move" campaign, is helping fight childhood obesity. The innovative and unique program incorporates daily physical activity that helps to burn calories, improve motor skills, improve the immune system and create greater hand-eye coordination all while promoting life skills and sportsmanship. Parents see a myriad of benefits through having their children participate.

"I am very excited about the opportunity that TGA brings to not only me, but also my community," Dunlap said. "The program sets itself apart from other tennis and sports programs with its unique curriculum, providing the equipment and keeping kids active while incorporating education and life skills. I truly believe a program like this will give me the opportunity to give back and instill the passion, excitement and confidence the sport has brought me over the years."
