Matthew Austin Speaks at USLAW Network Conference

September 30, 2014 // Franchising.com // On September 19, 2014, Matthew D. Austin, a partner in Roetzel's Columbus office, spoke before the membership and guests of the USLAW Network at the group's Fall Client Conference in San Francisco, California.

Mr. Austin, joined by Maureen F. Moore, Vice President Corporate Labor Relations, Xerox Corporation, Robert J. Sandkuhler, Counsel, Global Labor and Employment, and others, presented a panel discussion entitled "After the Gold Rush – The NLRB's Continued Intrusion into the Non-Union Workplace" before in-house and outside counsel from across the country.

Mr. Austin focuses his practice on labor and employment law, including representing companies in all aspects of dealing with labor unions. He trains employers on staying union-free and guides them through union campaigns and elections. He negotiates contracts and handles grievances and arbitrations. He responds to unfair labor practice charges and has handled NLRB hearings across the U.S. He conducts strike planning and combats economic pressure techniques like strikes, salting, sickouts, and corporate campaigns. He also navigates complex labor laws when assisting companies with decertification elections or withdrawing recognition of unions.

Mr. Austin has an OSHA practice that naturally grew out of representing employers defending themselves against labor unions. He helps companies comply with OSHA regulations, assists during OSHA investigations, and represents employers in OSHA litigation. He also handles high-stakes workplace investigations involving wage and hour issues and pervasive discriminatory practices promulgated by the U.S. Department of Labor, the EEOC and state equivalent agencies, or individual plaintiffs through their own attorneys.
