ZIPS Dry Cleaners Grows With All-Star Cast of Multi-Brand, Multi-Unit Franchisees

October 06, 2014 // Franchising.com // GREENBELT, Md. – The push to sign multi-unit franchisees has become a common theme at ZIPS Dry Cleaners, an aggressively expanding dry cleaning franchise known for its same-day, one-price business model – currently $1.99 per garment. In the last couple of years, the company has landed several multi-brand, multi-unit franchisees that will add units throughout the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast.

• John Rusnak, president of Pilgrimage Development, a Maryland-based investment and retail development group anchored by lead investor Harvey Rothstein, CEO of DavCo Restaurants, has agreed to build 20 ZIPS Dry Cleaners. The partners have more than 100 years of business and real estate development experience with such brands as Wendy’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and other quick service and fast casual brands. They have already opened four of their locations.
• Bashir Shams, who previously owned and operated seven Burger King franchises in Mississippi, has signed a five-store development deal, two of which he has already opened.
• Shahid Hashmi recently added one ZIPS Dry Cleaners to his already extensive portfolio of franchise brands, which includes 40 Popeye’s restaurants, two Burger Kings and two Retro Fitness gyms. He plans to add more ZIPS locations in the coming years.
• Samer Shalby is ZIPS’ newest franchisee, having recently committed to opening one location by the end of the year. His other franchise holdings include two Salad Creations and one Zaxby’s.
