Cousins Subs® In Appleton, Wis. Supports Fox Valley Warming Shelter

Restaurant Hosts Fundraiser to Help Homeless Men and Women

November 17, 2014 // Franchising.com // APPLETON, WIS. – For the second consecutive year, Cousins Subs® located at 706 W. Northland Ave. in Appleton, Wis. will host a "Stuff the Stocking" fundraiser from Nov. 28 to Dec. 24 to support the Fox Valley Warming Shelter (FVWS).

Supporters can help men and women in need by purchasing a paper ornament for $1. One-hundred percent of proceeds will go to FVWS, which welcomes all homeless men and women into its facility. Once inside, they are provided with life’s basic needs—shelter, food, clothing and safety—along with referrals to local resources to help them achieve self-sufficiency.

"Everyone is entitled to life’s basic necessities— shelter, food, clothing and safety— especially during a time of impending cold weather," said Kim Siedler, owner of the Northland Avenue Cousins Subs. "With the help of the Fox Valley community, we can provide men and women with the help they need to overcome and thrive."

The restaurant will also host a donation night on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 4 – 8 p.m. with 10 percent of proceeds going to FVWS. In addition, supporters that bring in items off the shelter’s most-needed items list will receive a FREE sub certificate* good at their next visit.

"We are so grateful to Kim and Cousins Subs for their support!" said Connie Raether, volunteer coordinator at FVWS. "Our numbers have doubled in the past year and our supplies are really running low. This is a wonderful partnership!"

The Cousins Subs on Northland Avenue first opened in May 1993 and transitioned ownership to Kim Siedler in January 2003. Under Siedler’s ownership, she continues to support FVWS through monthly donations of Cousins Subs famous Better Bread and signature chips.

About Cousins Subs

Cousins Subs® and its franchisees operate more than 120 sub sandwich shops in four states, with bold expansion plans. The first Cousins Subs was established in Milwaukee in 1972 by Bill Specht and his cousin. Their dream was to bring East Coast-style sub sandwiches to Milwaukee – with their own deli fresh touch. They started with their bread, developing a secret recipe with the perfect taste and crunch. That bread is the cornerstone of the Cousins Subs slogan, "Better Bread. Better Subs." The original recipe is still closely followed at every Cousins Subs restaurant, where each sandwich is made to order using freshly sliced deli meats, cheeses, and vegetables – and the bread is baked fresh each day. Forty-two years later and still family owned, Cousins Subs employees and franchisees are driven by their mission to "Make it a Better Day" in all they do. In 2013, the brand proudly announced the establishment of the Make it Better Foundation, dedicated to funding causes that address health and wellness, hunger and youth education in the communities that Cousins Subs serves.
