MINNEAPOLIS - December 2, 2014 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Buffalo Wild Wings® (NASDAQ: BWLD) announced that its restaurants, together with Guests, raised $780,000 during its annual fundraising promotion in October - nearly double the amount raised in 2013. The donation will create team sports opportunities for nearly 35,000 kids at their local Boys & Girls Clubs across the country in 2015. As part of its Team Up for Kids® initiative and partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), the company donated 100 percent of every paper pinup purchased in-restaurant in October to support Boys & Girls Club youth sports programs. Guests also had the opportunity to donate online.
This donation allows Buffalo Wild Wings to fund nearly twice as many grants to new and existing All Stars flag football, tackle football and cheer teams in 2015, along with the introduction of new grants for All Stars basketball teams.
Clubs across the country are also celebrating the end of the 2014 All Stars football and cheer team season during the first annual All Stars Recognition Week, recognizing Club kids, coaches and parents who exemplify teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, respect and positive attitudes. Participants were nominated and recognized at Clubs, with three regional winners selected in each of five BGCA regions, along with three national winners chosen from the group of regional winners. All winners received a plaque, and regional and national winners received additional prizes from Buffalo Wild Wings.
National winners include National Athlete of the Year Micah Ramos-Stone from Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, National Coach of the Year Tony Taibi from Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County (Ind.) and National Parent of the Year Carla Averhart from Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club.
"We congratulate every Club member, coach and parent for their accomplishments and role in creating a successful All Stars season. The nomination process for Recognition Week showcased many uplifting stories of the positive influence All Stars teams have on young people. Recognition Week affirms the All Stars program is helping kids in our communities build character and learn valuable life lessons that will help them succeed in the future," said Mary Twinem, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Buffalo Wild Wings. "We'd like to extend a heartfelt ‘thank you' to all of our Guests who joined us in supporting Boys & Girls Clubs of America in October. We're very pleased we can create additional team sports opportunities, including new All Stars basketball teams, in 2015. The success of our fundraising campaign will help fulfill our vision to give every child the chance to belong to a team," stated Twinem.
Buffalo Wild Wings more than doubled the impact of its Team Up for Kids® initiative in 2014 over 2013, giving 28,000 kids the opportunity to be part of a team through 285 All Stars grants to Boys & Girls Clubs. The grants include funding, team jerseys, a recognition program and coach training and resources through the National Alliance of Youth Sports (NAYS), a non-profit organization with a widely-used training program focused on creating positive and safe team sports experiences.
For the first time in 2014, Buffalo Wild Wings also presented $25,000 Team Up for Kids® awards to ten Clubs across the country to support special projects such as a sport field or facility renovations to improve sports programming.
In 2014, Buffalo Wild Wings will exceed its commitment to donate and raise $1 million through its pinup promotion as well as proceeds from the sales of sauce and seasoning bottles. It has committed to donating over $4 million to Boys & Girls Clubs of America by 2016.
