Interstate Batteries' Ron Kneifl Stars in Company's National Television Commercial

Whistling While He Works Brings Fame To Sioux City Route Truck Driver

December 18, 2014 // Franchising.com // DALLAS -- A typical day for Interstate Batteries route sales manager Ron Kneifl involves delivering batteries to mechanic shops and retail stores along his Sioux City, Iowa, route. Lately, however, his stops have been taking a little longer as his clients want to talk about more than just batteries - they want to talk about Ron Kneifl, the emerging television commercial star.

Kneifl, who earned an Interstate Batteries Route Sales Manager of the Year award in May, appears in one of the company's national television commercials that began airing in November. The advertisement promotes Interstate's commitment to keeping America beautiful through the company's recycling program and features Kneifl whistling the tune of "America The Beautiful" while steering his route truck along a spectacularly scenic road.

"When you can't sing, you have to learn how to whistle," Kneifl joked about his talent on display in the commercial. "It wasn't very hard to do, actually. It's one of those songs we've all heard since childhood, so I didn't have to think about it much. It just came out."

During filming, Kneifl sat in the driver's seat of his route truck in front of a green screen. Later, the production company edited in the scenic background video, which was shot in the Lake Tahoe area. Kneifl admits to being a little nervous on camera.

"I think it took five or six attempts at whistling the song before we got it just right," Kneifl said. "We had a wonderful director who told me exactly what was needed."

Kneifl has worked with Interstate Batteries of Sioux City at 3130 Line Drive since 2008.

"Ron's contribution to our national advertising campaign is wonderful," Interstate Batteries Vice President of Communications Jane Koenecke said. "We wanted to tell the story of Interstate Batteries being a caring and committed neighbor, and this commercial expresses that message, well... beautifully."

Interstate Batteries recycles more batteries than it sells, and the Dallas-based company has a special commitment to responsible and safe battery handling practices. Check out Kneifl's whistling talents at www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCxjBphquAQ.
