Wrightsville Beach Marathon: Riding 26 Miles for 26 Years

101 Mobility helps Amy Neubauer outfit her power chair for Sunday’s Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Marathon

Wilmington, NC (PRWEB) March 20, 2015 - On Sunday, March 22nd, local racer Amy Neubauer will take to the road to complete a marathon in her newly equipped power chair. The staff at local mobility company 101 Mobility was elated and excited when they were presented with opportunity to outfit Neubaer’s power chair for racing capability.

“It’s so great that she has the drive to complete the 26 miles to mark 26 years since her accident; she definitely has a lot of ambition and spirit,” said Mitch Gower, Product and Technical Support Representative from 101 Mobility.

Neubauer certainly has endured quite a lot over the past 26 years. She moved north to receive rehabilitative care in Virginia and New Hampshire, and later returned home to North Carolina. However, returning to North Carolina was not the end of her journey. In order to avoid spending her days in a nursing home, Neubauer had to petition the state to receive an apartment through Wilmington’s Public Housing Authority. Neubauer was eventually granted the apartment, but its layout is not conducive for someone in a wheelchair. After 18 years of living in the apartment, Neubauer has decided to take matters into her own hands yet again.

By racing on Sunday, Neubauer hopes to raise awareness for those in similar situations and also raise funds for a new accessible residence. With the help of 101 Mobility Franchise Development Manager Chris Diehl, Neubauer is off to the races! Diehl relayed the request to outfit the power chair to 101 Mobility’s technical department, and along with the help of her caregiver from BAYADA Home Health Care, and friend Sarah A. Sniff, they are making sure the chair is ready for its debut on Sunday.

“We’re equipping her chair with additional battery power and replacement batteries to make sure she can run along Sarah for the duration of the marathon,” said Ryan Price, Product and Technical Support Representative for 101 Mobility. “We think it’s FANTASTIC that she’s decided to race. Just like anyone else, Miss Neubauer deserves to be comfortable and independent in her own home.”

Come out on Sunday to see Amy race alongside Sarah in her newly furnished power chair. The Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Marathon takes place Sunday, March 22, 2015. Race begins at 6:00 A.M. in Wrightsville Beach and concludes at the Mayfaire Town Center.
