Jersey Mike’s Subs Named “Official Sub Sandwich Shop of the New York Yankees”

April 03, 2015 // Franchising.com // MANASQUAN, N.J. – Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, has been named the exclusive “Official Sub Sandwich Shop of the New York Yankees.” The two iconic brands will formally kick off their partnership in time for Opening Day on April 6, 2015.

“The Yankees are one of the premier sports franchises in the world and since Jersey Mike’s is a brand that focuses on being a sub above, we think this is a natural partnership,” said Rich Hope, chief marketing office, Jersey Mike’s Subs. “As we build out the Northeast and New York DMA, we feel the partnership makes a statement about our commitment to be a major player in the greater New York area. It also provides us with a branding presence in Yankee Stadium, which is one of the world’s most famous sports venues.”

In addition to the exclusive designation of "Official Sub Sandwich Shop of the New York Yankees,” the agreement includes in-Stadium LED signage, use of marks offline, and game tickets that Jersey Mike’s will use for in-store and on-air sweepstakes on WFAN.

“We are very excited to enter a relationship with Jersey Mike’s Subs. We look forward to working together with Jersey Mike’s Subs to increase brand awareness, both with signage at Yankee Stadium and retail activation in the tri-state area,” said Michael J. Tusiani, New York Yankees Senior Vice President of Corporate Sales and Sponsorships.

The connection between sports and Jersey Mike’s has always been strong, ever since Founder and CEO Peter Cancro gave up a football scholarship at age 17 to buy his first shop at the Jersey Shore. Jersey Mike’s now has 1,500 restaurants open and under development nationwide.

True to its mission to make a difference in someone’s life, Jersey Mike’s regularly partners with local charities, including community sports teams.

Jersey Mike’s also attracts professional athletes to its franchise ranks. For instance, Morgan Ensberg, a former New York Yankees player and member of other Major League teams, owns two Jersey Mike’s locations in California, with one in development. Former NFL player Angelo Crowell, along with his wife Kim, own six locations in Tallahassee and South Georgia with plans to grow throughout the Southeast.

Jersey Mike’s is a long-time supporter of PAFI, an organization with the mission to advocate, educate and develop successful professional athlete franchisees.

Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s was named the #1 fastest growing chain in the Nation’s Restaurant News 2014 Top 100 and continues to win best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.

The growth is fueled by passionate Jersey Mike’s fans who crave their subs made Mike’s Way® with the freshest vegetables – onions, lettuce and tomatoes – topped off with an exquisite zing of “the juice” – red wine vinegar and olive oil blended to perfection. Jersey Mike’s premium meats and cheeses are sliced on the spot, piled high on in-store baked bread and served up with a helping of neighborly banter from a dedicated and high-energy team.
