Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate Resale Stores Raising $100,000 to Build Schools in Africa

Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate have teamed up with buildOn, a non-profit organization dedicated to working with under-served communities around the world, to raise enough funds through a charity Fill-A-Bag sale to build three new schools in Africa.

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) April 15, 2015 - Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate, both resale brands of BaseCamp Franchising, have teamed up with buildOn, a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education. Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate stores across the nation will hold a charity Fill-A-Bag sale on April 25, with 100 percent of the proceeds being used to build three schools with buildOn in Mali, Senegal and Burkina Faso.

"We couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to use our network of Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate franchise locations as a way to raise funds to help children by building schools in some of the most impoverished areas in the world," said Shauna Sloan, founder of Kid to Kid. "Our customers - teens, college students, mothers, and fathers - shop resale to save money, conserve resources and help our environment. During the charity Fill-A-Bag sale, our customers buy a $15 bag that they can fill all the way to the top full of select merchandise. Not only will they leave with a bag full of great stuff, but the entire purchase will be donated to buildOn to help them in their efforts to educate children."

On April 25, customers can attend charity Fill-A-Bag sales at more than 40 participating Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate store locations. Large shopping bags will be sold for just $15, and customers can put as much specially-marked product into the bags as they can fit. Thousands of items will be available for the sale at each participating location. A large part of this select sale merchandise has been donated by customers from local communities. Customers who purchase bags will also receive a coupon for 15 percent off all full-priced merchandise not included in the sale.

"What’s so great about this charity sale event is the significant impact it will have on the buildOn organization and the families they serve," said Uptown Cheapskate co-founder, Chelsea Sloan Carroll. "We successfully tested this model on a limited basis and are excited to roll it out on a national level to all our stores."

"Education transforms lives, lifts people out of poverty, and brings the global community together," continued Carroll. "Our internal goal of raising $100,000 will all go towards building three new schools and essentially transforming three communities that truly need it."

Each school will accommodate up to 150 kids and feature two classrooms, a roof, latrines, and classroom supplies. buildOn works in partnership with the ministry of education in each country, the local village - which agrees to provide the land, local materials, and some construction labor; the engineering, materials skilled labor and project supervision is provided by buildOn. The village must also agree to send girls to school in equal numbers with boys for gender balance and equality.

Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate both offer current, stylish, gently used items in an upscale shopping experience. Kid to Kid buys and sells new and gently used children’s and maternity clothes, toys, books, and baby gear. For young adults, Uptown Cheapskate buys and sells new and like-new name brand clothes, shoes, jewelry and handbags.
