Leading Travel Franchise Targets New York For Expansion

Expedia CruiseShipCenters Aims to Add More Than 30 NY Locations

NEW YORK - May 12, 2015 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Expedia® CruiseShipCenters® – part of the Expedia® Inc. family of brands – announced plans to add more than 30 additional locations through strategic franchise partnerships in New York over the next five to seven years. With more than 190 stores already operating in North America, Expedia CruiseShipCenters has identified New York as a prime market for development. The company recently opened its first New York franchise in Nassau County and will follow with a second store in Staten Island later this year.

According to NYCruise, more than $250 million was recently invested in the redesign of the Manhattan and Brooklyn cruise terminals, making them among the finest contemporary cruise terminals in the world. Now, as the nation’s fourth busiest cruise port, New York is becoming an increasingly popular homeport to some of the world’s most acclaimed cruise lines such as Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and Disney Cruise Line, creating an ideal environment for travel business expansion.

“Given the density of the market and the increasing number of cruisers departing from the city’s two terminals, it makes sense for us to focus on New York as a growth region for new franchise locations,” says Matthew Eichhorst, President of Expedia CruiseShipCenters. “Our promise is to navigate spectacular vacation experiences for cruisers – wherever they live – and we see enormous potential to reach those customers by bringing our franchise model to New York.”

There are at least 35 territories available in the Boroughs, including eight in Brooklyn, 14 in Queens, three in Staten Island, eight in Manhattan and two in the Bronx. Recently, Expedia CruiseShipCenters opened a location in Merrick which has seen an influx of customer leads since opening this April.

Merrick Franchise Owner Joyce Mariner, a retired detective with the New York Police Department, is now using her honed interview skills to help local travelers plan their ideal vacation. Along with her team of Travel Consultants, she provides personal service and expert advice on cruises and vacations.

“After seeing how much support Expedia CruiseShipCenters offers its franchisees and how I could leverage Expedia’s $50 Billion brand in my local travel business, it was clear this was the perfect opportunity for me,” said Mariner. “I feel so fortunate to be doing what I love, and helping travelers in my community find the perfect fit for their vacation needs.”

The cruise industry continues to grow with 100 million North Americans interested in taking a cruise in the next four years and 55 new cruise ships planned to debut between now and 2020 according to Cruise Lines International Association. Since 70 percent of all cruises are booked through a travel agent, cruise lines are turning to major travel agency brands to help them fill capacity.

As Expedia CruiseShipCenters’ sales continue to grow at an average rate of 20 percent each year, outstripping the travel industry three to one, travelers in and around New York will soon be serviced by a trusted vacation expert in their local community.

Since it began franchising in 1987, the company has been providing business opportunities for driven team leaders like Mariner who want to build income, wealth and equity in a retail business they are passionate about. On June 18-20, prospective franchise owners will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with Expedia CruiseShipCenters representatives at the 24th annual International Franchise Expo at the Javits Center in New York City.
