Carlson Announces the Appointment of Three Board Members

May 20, 2015 // Franchising.com // MINNEAPOLIS - Carlson, a global hospitality and travel company, announced the appointment of new board members Laura M. Born and Sam Gilliland. Scott C. Gage, a Carlson family member, who previously served on the board through 2012 will also rejoin at this time.

Born currently serves as chair of the boards of trustees of two registered investment companies, Columbia Acorn Trust and Wanger Advisors Trust. Together, the boards oversee 12 small to mid-sized capitalization equity mutual funds with approximately $28 billion in aggregate assets. In addition, she is an associate adjunct professor of finance at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. Born worked for 16 years at JP Morgan Chase & Co. (until June 2007) as an investment banker in both New York and Chicago. Holding several different positions at JP Morgan, Ms. Born worked in equity capital markets, high yield, leveraged finance and the client coverage group. She also served on the Carlson Wagonlit Travel board from 2013-2014.

Gage is currently chair of the Carlson Real Estate board. He is also co-chair and co-chief executive officer of Carlson Holdings Inc., and serves on the boards of Gage Marketing and The StepUp Program at Augsburg College. He is also vice president of the board of the Curtis L. Carlson Family Foundation. Prior to his current board roles, he worked in strategic marketing for Gage Group. Gage graduated from the University of Colorado and received an MBA from The Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota where he concentrated in marketing and finance.

Gilliland is currently an executive partner with Siris Capital Group, a technology-focused private equity firm. He previously served as chairman and CEO of Sabre for nearly 10 years where he led more than 10,000 employees in 60 countries, spanning all segments of the travel industry. A recognized leader in the travel and tourism industry, Gilliland was appointed to President’s Management Advisory board by President Barack Obama in March 2011. In 2014, he was appointed to serve as chair during his fourth term on the U.S. Commerce Department’s Travel and Tourism Advisory, which reports to the Secretary of Commerce. Gilliland also serves on the boards of Rackspace Hosting, Inc. and Gogo, Inc.
