Tastee Freez Names Anchorage Franchisee Operator of the Year

Longtime Franchisee, Rich Owens, Takes Home the Prestigious Award for Second Year

June 8, 2015 // Franchising.com // IRVINE, California – Tastee Freez, the brand behind America’s favorite soft served treats, announced Alaska franchisee, Rich Owens, as its 2014 Operator of the Year. Rich was honored by Tastee Freez parent company, Galardi Group, which also operates the Wienerschnitzel and Hamburger Stand brands, at the company’s 2015 National Operator Seminar for his tireless commitment to excellence since he began operating the long established Tastee Freez franchise in 1994. Rich also earned this most coveted award in 2006.

“Rich has gone beyond the call of duty in creating a destination for fundraisers and charities throughout the Anchorage community,” said Doug Koegeboehn, Chief Marketing Officer for Galardi Group. “He is an outstanding example of how a small business owner with a big heart can make a huge difference, and we are privileged to award this honor to such a deserving ambassador of the Tastee Freez brand.”

Known locally as the Commander of the Alaska National Guard “Ice Cream Support Squadron”, Rich is a longtime member of the National Guard’s Operation Santa Claus Committee, and has delivered well over 20,000 ice cream sundaes to more than 45 remote villages across Alaska since he began working with the organization in 2002.

“I am forever grateful to my loyal customers, who are really more like family and friends, many of which have been visiting this Tastee Freez since it first opened in 1958,” said Rich. “It’s an honor to be recognized with this award, and I look forward to many more years of serving Tastee Freez soft serve treats and delicious sandwiches to the Anchorage community.”
