Donut Lovers Go To The Polls: Vote For The Two Donuts That You Want To Go Head-to-Head In Tim Hortons Restaurants

Only four donuts remain in the Tim Hortons Duelling Donuts contest and now it’s time for Canadians to vote for their favourite.

August 20, 2015 // Franchising.com // OAKVILLE, ON - From maple crème filling to strawberry icing to brownie crumble topping, the judges of the Tim Hortons Duelling Donuts contest had a sweet day. But it wasn't a cakewalk for the judges – Jann Arden, deadmau5 and Sophie Tweed-Simmons had the difficult task of narrowing down the field to four semi-finalists, who would proceed to the online voting round of the competition. They managed to pick their top four, and today the donut polls are officially open at DuellingDonuts.ca for Canadians to have their say.

"We tried eight incredible pieces of heaven, and heard the fun stories behind each one," said Jann Arden. "Narrowing the field to four was almost impossible. Each donut was so good in its own way and all eight contestants showed a true passion for their family inspired recipes."
Starting today until August 31, 2015, Canadians are encouraged to visit DuellingDonuts.ca to vote daily for their favourite donut, and the two donuts with the most votes will advance to the finalist round. The semi-finalist donuts are:

  • 'Donut Pass on this Banana Bread', created by Deryk Kirchner of Sherwood Park, Alberta – a banana ring donut with banana filling and chocolate icing, topped with dark chocolate crispy pearls and pecans
  • 'Key Lime to my Heart', created by Francine Robinson of Napanee, Ontario – a traditional yeast based donut with key lime filling, cream cheese icing, chocolate drizzle and topped with white chocolate curls
  • 'French Toast Deluxe', created by David Maguire of Wolfville, Nova Scotia – a cruller with maple crème filling, dark chocolate icing and maple drizzle, topped with pecans
  • 'Mint Brownie Cheesecake', created by Corrie Repko of Oshawa, Ontario – a chocolate donut with cheesecake filling, mint icing and chocolate drizzle, topped with brownie crumble

After the 12-day voting period, votes will be tallied and the two finalists of the Tim Hortons Duelling Donuts contest will be announced on September 1, 2015. In spring 2016, the two donuts will be sold in Tim Hortons restaurants across Canada for a limited time, where Canadians can vote with their taste buds. The most popular donut among guests will be crowned champion and its creator will receive $10,000.

"We're excited to see which two donuts will be brought to life in our restaurants next spring," says David Clanachan, President & COO, Tim Hortons Canada. "The great news is that all four finalist donuts are delicious, so whatever the outcome, our guests won't be disappointed. I want to say thank you to all of the eight finalists who came out to spend the day with us. They were passionate about their donuts, and we're happy that they were able to taste the delectable baked version of what they had imagined."
