Giant Tiger Stores Limited Announces New Board of Directors

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - (Marketwired - Aug. 25, 2015) - Gordon Reid, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Giant Tiger Stores Limited, Canada's leading discount retailer, is pleased to announce the company's new Board of Directors, effective August 1, 2015.

The new structure has been put in place to ensure that the expertise of Giant Tiger's business operations is maintained and held to the highest standard as the company continues to grow its brand throughout Canada.

Board members include:

Gordon Reid

Gordon Reid, Chairman, founded the company in 1961 after seven years' experience with Simpson Department Stores and three years' experience travelling the United States as Sales Manager of an import company servicing American chain stores.

Thomas Haig

Thomas Haig has recently joined Giant Tiger Stores Limited as its President and COO. With over 40 years of experience in the retail sector in senior leadership and executive roles, including President and COO of Zellers and President, Stores and Specialty Division, at Hudson's Bay Company, Mr. Haig has a distinguished career in Canadian and international retail.

Greg Farrell, CPA, CA

Greg Farrell has recently retired as the President and COO of Giant Tiger Stores Limited. Prior to this role, Greg was the company's EVP and CFO. During his tenure with Giant Tiger, Mr. Farrell was a member of the corporate executive team and a Director of the corporation. Before joining the company in 2000, Mr. Farrell was a partner in the accounting and consulting firm of BDO Dunwoody. Mr. Farrell is also an active member of various charitable organizations in the Ottawa community.

Michael Lewis, CPA, CMA

Michael Lewis joined Giant Tiger Stores Limited in 1984 and has recently retired as its EVP and CIO. Prior to this role, Mr. Lewis held a management position in the Finance Department. During his tenure with the company, Mr. Lewis was a member of the corporate executive team and a Director of the corporation.

John Ruddy

John Ruddy is currently the Executive Chairman of Trinity Development Group. Established in 1992, Trinity has developed more than 25 million square feet of retail centres and mixed use developments across Canada. Mr. Ruddy's Trinity Development Foundation supports a long list of local charities; including recent donations to the University of Ottawa's Heart Institute and Carleton University.

Marco Marrone, MBA, FCPA, C. Dir.

Marco Marrone is the former EVP of Canadian Tire Corporation and COO of Canadian Tire Retail. In this role Mr. Marrone oversaw three retail organizations, Canadian Tire Retail, Canadian Tire Petroleum and PartSource, totaling over $9 billion in sales across 870 retail locations. Prior to this role, Mr. Marrone was the CFO and EVP, Finance for Canadian Tire Corporation, and President and CEO of Canadian Tire Financial Services and Canadian Tire Bank. In addition to his various volunteer positions, Mr. Marrone currently sits on the Nordstrom Bank Board and the Brock University Board of Trustees. He is also a former member of the Canadian Banker's Association Executive Council.

Kevin Jackson

Kevin Jackson has been a Giant Tiger franchise owner since 2005. Before becoming a franchise owner, Mr. Jackson took on various positions within Giant Tiger's Home Office, including working in the warehouse as well as on the new store set-up team. Mr. Jackson has also served as a member of the Giant Tiger Management Support Group for the past five years, is an active member of his local community and is a board member of the downtown Ottawa BIA.
