Jamba Juice Teams Up with the New Orleans Market to Inspire Students to Stay Active and Healthy

Jamba “Teams Up For a Healthy America” with DonorsChoose.org to fund Local Schools’ Health and Projects

EMERYVILLE, Calif. - September 28, 2015 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Continuing its longtime dedication to the local communities, leading health and active lifestyle brand Jamba Juice announced today that it has ‘flash funded’ more than $7,900 to support New Orleans area public schools with classroom requests such as fitness equipment, athletic gear and other tools to help youth in the region stay active and healthy.

The program is part of Jamba’s ‘Team Up for a Healthy America’ program. Launched in 2011, Team Up for a Healthy America is one of Jamba's marquee corporate social responsibility programs, designed to improve childhood wellness by encouraging and inspiring kids to make better dietary choices and keep active.

To help distribute the funds generated by this unique charitable initiative, Jamba Juice and Team Up for a Healthy America has partnered with DonorsChoose.org, a non-profit website that makes it easy for anyone to help public school students and teachers in need. Jamba Juice’s initial donation today of $7,984.63 to DonorsChoose.org helped fund 14 projects in the New Orleans market, reaching seven schools and 1,000 students, many within the highest poverty bracket.

In addition to the initial funding of $7,984.63, on Tuesday, September 29th participating Jamba Juice stores in the New Orleans area will donate 20 percent of sales to fund other educational projects requested by public school students in the local community, allowing the customers to play a key part in this important program.

“We’re very proud to bring our Team Up for a Healthy American initiative to New Orleans, which is designed to help students thrive by providing them with access to the equipment and tools that they need to meet their full potential,” said New Orleans franchise partner, Charlie Rareshide, principal of Juicy Investments, LLC. “Jamba Juice’s culture is built in large part around the importance of actively giving back to the communities that we serve, and we’re determined to help as many students and schools in need.”

Last week, three other Jamba Juice markets participated in the DonorsChoose.org program, including San Diego, CA, Chicago, IL and Salem, OR. Cumulatively, these three markets donated more than $84,000 and reached over 12,500 students.

Through DonorsChoose.org, public school teachers from every corner of America submit classroom project requests, and individuals and organizations can give directly to the ones that inspire them. The projects that DonorsChoose.org fund range from athletic gear, to science equipment, books, art supplies and anything that helps students receive an excellent education. Since 2011, Jamba and DonorsChoose.org have teamed up to provide athletic and play equipment to schools to keep kids active across America and have impacted more than 100,000 school children.

In addition to Jamba’s Team Up for a Healthy America program, Jamba offers two year-round opportunities for local schools and other nonprofits to fundraise the FUN way through their local Jamba store. First, Jamba offers fundraising cards with “buy-one, get-one free” offers that schools can sell and get 50 percent of the funds back, and second Jamba can sell smoothies at local events and donate up to 20 percent of the sales to local schools or charities.
