Cathy Thorpe Named Nurse Next Door Chief Executive Officer

President of Two Years Takes on Strategic Vision From Company Founders

VANCOUVER, BC - (Marketwired - April 26, 2016) - Nurse Next Door co-founders Ken Sim and John DeHart announced today the promotion of Cathy Thorpe to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nurse Next Door. Her bold and disruptive leadership as president since 2014 has dramatically expanded Nurse Next Door's franchise locations from 85 to 130, while growing the business by 30 per cent year-over-year.

"We have Cathy to credit for the exceptional growth experienced in such a short period of time," says Dehart. "She is a visionary, an industry disruptor and world class business strategist, but more importantly her ability to lead is guided by heart. Cathy balances the demands for business growth without compromising operational excellence in the process."

Thorpe joined Nurse Next Door as president in 2014 after Sim and DeHart recognized the need to bring in an experienced leader who could professionalize and elevate the operations while accelerating growth and expansion. Since founding the home care company in Vancouver, B.C. in 2001, Sim and DeHart had dedicated their efforts to growing the business to reach 84 franchise locations across Canada and the U.S. Thorpe entered the company at the onset of it becoming one of the fastest growing home care providers in North America and has continued to accelerate its growth.

Thorpe's leadership style has been described as compassionate but disruptive, constantly challenging the industry's status quo. In February 2016, Nurse Next Door announced their industry-first partnership with St. Joseph Health -- a $6 billion California-based healthcare organization -- to expand over 30 locations in the Southern California market, a strategic initiative led by Thorpe and accomplished with her team. Through this partnership, St. Joseph became a franchisee of Nurse Next Door marking the first time a hospital system has become a franchisee of a private duty home care brand.

"She emanates bold decision-making," says Sim. "What is truly inspiring about Cathy is her ability to transparently look at business and understand our motivation, then implement plans that move the barometer where it matters that also make it difficult for our industry to ignore."

As CEO, Thorpe will oversee strategic direction to enter new markets, achieve new heights in operational excellence, and excel its people brand.
