#ThankANurse Campaign Aims to Empower Public to Thank One Million Nurses

Social Media Initiative Allows Mass Expression of Gratitude during Nurses Week

April 28, 2016 // Franchising.com // CHICAGO - Whether the calming voice during labor and delivery, the gentle hand that relaxes a scared child in the ER, or the compassionate help provided to those in the late stages of life, nurses positively impact the lives of millions of Americans every day. While the recipients of nurses’ care can easily forget to show gratitude during these stressful moments, they will get a chance during a #ThankANurse social media campaign slated for Nurses Week, May 6-12.

The social media campaign is among several ways Americans can pay tribute to the tireless work of nurses across the country. By promoting the use of #ThankANurse on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, BrightStar Care, a national private duty in-home care franchise, hopes to give thanks to at least 1 million nurses during the campaign.

As part of the effort, the company has created a website featuring personal videos of people thanking nurses, as well as video tributes to four outstanding nurses. Visitors can create and share #ThankANurse posts directly from the site.

“We want to make it easy for people to express their appreciation for the nurses that have touched their lives,” said Sharon Roth Maguire, MS, RN, GNP-BC, and Chief Clinical Quality Officer of BrightStar Care. “All someone has to do is share a post on social media describing how a special nurse made a difference in their life — #ThankANurse. It’s a simple gesture that can have a huge impact.”

The public can participate in #ThankANurse by posting:

  • A status sharing how a nurse touched their life
  • A photo of themselves or a loved one with the special nurse they would like to thank
  • A short video verbalizing their gratitude

In addition to the public campaign, BrightStar Care hosts an annual Home Care Nurse of the Year initiative to recognize the more than 2,500 home care nurses employed by local agencies in its own system. Franchise owners nominate Registered Nurses who follow the brand’s “Higher Standard of Care” core values. Four regional winners were selected in March and awarded a $500 scholarship at surprise reveal ceremonies in their communities, with   Kelly Honn of Wheaton, IL, crowned National Nurse of the Year. Honn also won a $2,000 scholarship for continuing education.
