Alamo Drafthouse And Odell Come Together Again For A Bold New IPA

Limited batch brew achieves out-of-this-world flavor thanks to an ultra-rare hop variety. Available now at select Alamo Drafthouse locations.

July 13, 2016 // Franchising.com // Austin, TX - The Alamo Drafthouse and Odell Brewing are pleased to announce the release of their new collaboration, "Beyond IPA." Alamo is extremely excited for the opening of STAR TREK BEYOND on July 22 in all its markets. To celebrate all things cosmic, Alamo collaborated again with their friends at Odell to craft a beer paying tribute to space exploration. This bold new brew is available now at participating Alamo Drafthouse locations in Colorado, Texas, Missouri, and Nebraska. In addition to offering "Beyond IPA," these Alamo locations will also feature an Odell "tap takeover," with several taps dedicated to other Odell brews throughout the month of July.

"It's a pleasure to have our second collaboration with Odell available to Alamo guests at JUST the right time: when temperatures are rocketing upwards and a cool, dark theater and cold beer are vital life support," says Alamo Director of National Beer Promotions, John Gross. "We banded together with our own Alamo beer enthusiasts from both Austin and Denver to help plan and brew the final product with our pals at Odell, a real treat. The result is a great big, floral, double IPA that effortlessly pushes the style out of the stratosphere."

Following last year's "French {Hop} Connection," which celebrated the release of Drafthouse Films' THE CONNECTION, this is the second collaboration between Alamo Drafthouse and the Fort Collins, Colorado, craft beer powerhouse. A double-IPA, "Beyond" orbits around Comet, a hop variety not easily accessed by most brewers.

Originally developed in the 1970s, Comet was deemed too aggressive for use at the time. With light American lager being the dominant style, the variety almost evaporated completely.  Fortunately, a committed few growers kept this intensely bright hop variety alive. Only a couple years ago, the Odell team found one of these farmers and experienced the power of Comet first-hand.

"We were blown away by the intense grapefruit zest and sticky marijuana aromas while rubbing hop cones in the field," says Brendan McGivney, Odell's Director of Brewing Operations. "We then decided to contract for future production, and now we have found the perfect beer to allow the hop to blast off.  We're excited to share 'Beyond IPA,' a collaboration that showcases unique, world-class hops and both Odell Brewing and Alamo Drafthouse's commitment to push beyond boundaries."

Tickets for STAR TREK BEYOND are on sale now in 2D and 3D
