Preschool Franchise Company Continues Six-Year Steady Growth Pattern

Primrose Schools® opened 30 new schools, awarded 46 new franchise agreements in 2016

January 31, 2017 // Franchising.com // ATLANTA – Primrose Schools, a national preschool franchise company, is on a positive growth track that now spans six years. In 2016, the company saw year-over-year revenue growth of 13 percent from 2015, strengthening its brand leadership position in the highly competitive early childhood education franchise industry.

Primrose has 342 locations around the country that provide high-quality early education and care to children and families in 27 states. Schools had an average occupancy rate of 87.7 percent, as measured in May 2016. Primrose opened 30 new schools and awarded 46 franchise agreements in 2016, and the company anticipates opening 34 new schools in 2017.

“There is nationwide, growing demand for high-quality early education and care, and Primrose is poised to fill that need thanks to our exclusive Balanced Learning® approach and passionate Franchise Owners,” said Jo Kirchner, CEO of Primrose Schools. “Our continued success in 2016 reflects our Franchise Owners’ commitment to the Primrose mission and to providing an unparalleled early learning experience for the children and families they serve.”

Primrose, which was recently named the number one franchise in children’s services by Entrepreneur magazine, recruits entrepreneurs from many different fields who have leadership and management expertise along with a passion for early education. One of those entrepreneurs is Beau Athia, Franchise Owner of a Primrose school in Andover, Mass. Athia earned a degree in Real Estate Development and Finance from New York University, and for the past 15 years has worked in hotel development in the Washington, D.C. area. His wife, Urvi, holds two degrees in education and is a third-generation teacher.

“My parents are from a small village in India, so I’ve seen the impact that education can have and the difference it has made in my family,” said Athia. “This is an exciting time to be a part of Primrose. We look forward to bringing together my entrepreneurial spirit and Urvi’s background in education to help drive the premier educational experience that Primrose offers to children and families.”

The Athias also have part ownership of Primrose schools in the Chicago and San Francisco markets. In fact, Primrose leadership attributes its success this year in part to the innovative franchise ownership models that Primrose offers its Franchise Owners. Primrose will continue to offer new real estate and franchise models, including employer-sponsored schools and more multi-unit franchising options to meet the growing demand for early childhood education.

“Early childhood education is an incredibly rewarding industry,” said Kirchner. “As Primrose continues to grow, we’re looking for entrepreneurs who share our passion for making a difference in the lives of others.”

According to IBISWorld, education-based child care is a $48 billion a year industry and is expected to grow at an even faster pace than the overall child care market. Due to the high demand and success of the industry, Primrose Schools projects the franchise company will have 480 school locations by 2020. Primrose has identified the following markets for expansion because of strong demand for high-quality early education, entrepreneurial interest and available land:

  • Chicago
  • Boston
  • Philadelphia
  • Northern New Jersey and New York City
  • Northern and Southern California
