Pirtek Continues Expansion in Michigan with Opening of Newest Location in Grand Rapids

New mobile-only franchise to serve hose maintenance and repair needs for industries in western Michigan.

Franchise owner Oliver Romano is also a shareholder in four other successful Pirtek Michigan locations, all in metro Detroit: Madison Heights, Sterling Heights, Westland and Wixom.

The Grand Rapids location is a Tier 2 franchise, part of a mobile-only program rolled out by Pirtek in 2016. Under the Tier 2 model, a franchisee can lease two vehicles and keep inventory in a storage facility. The new program allows for Pirtek ownership at a significantly lower point of entry than the traditional Tier 1 model, which includes a Service & Supply Center along with the Mobile Service Vehicles. Several other franchisees have set up Tier 2 locations or are in the process.

Romano said he plans to capitalize on the growth in his new territory. “There’s a lot of development going on around Grand Rapids,” he said. “There are some hydraulics shops here, but there’s nobody who travels onsite to perform the work. That’s our niche.”

Tier 2 franchisees are expected to have a fully staffed and outfitted Service & Supply Center within three years. Each new Mobile Service Vehicle in the fleet widens the exclusive territory. Romano said he plans to develop the Tier 2 into a full Tier 1 location in less than two years.

Romano, who is launching the new business with two Mobile Service Vehicles, said he will tap into several thriving industries that include construction, equipment rental, recycling, metal stamping and many others. Some of his customers in the Detroit area also have locations in Grand Rapids, which he hopes will give him an edge in winning business. From Grand Rapids, he plans to offer his services to other cities in western Michigan, including Kalamazoo, Holland and Muskegon.

“We’ll take care of everybody, just like we do in Detroit,” Romano said.

A veteran of the US Navy, Romano is taking advantage of a reduced startup cost that Pirtek offers to those who served in the Armed Forces.
