Merry Maids Takes the Guesswork out of #SpringCleaning with Its Step-by-Step, Room-by-Room Plan of Attack

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - April 24, 2017 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Spring cleaning is the time to give your entire house - and everything in it - a thorough cleaning. To ensure everyone has a stress-free spring cleaning season, Merry Maids, the nation’s largest home cleaning provider and a ServiceMaster (NYSE: SERV) company, is sharing its expert tested, tried-and-true, room-by-room plan of attack.

“While spring cleaning can seem overwhelming, it’s a huge relief to rid your home of dust, grime and clutter,” says Debra Johnson, Merry Maids home cleaning expert. “A roadmap will help you get there - from baseboards and windowsills to linen closets and kitchen pantries.”

To simplify spring cleaning and help you tackle every area of the home, Johnson offers her expert advice on how to get every nook and cranny to its cleanest state.

All Rooms and Common Areas

  • Purge, Organize and Dust All Rooms
Start by ridding rooms of clutter - gadgets, clothes, towels and more - making them easier to organize. “Rearrange” furniture to refresh your room and give a good, hard dusting to difficult-to-reach, dust-collecting spaces with microfiber in hand.
  • Washing the Window Treatments
Rid your home of pollen, allergens, dust and dirt by showing TLC to windows and their treatments. Steam clean curtains, take a dryer sheet to mini blinds or wash shades using warm water, soap and your trusty microfiber cloth.

Kitchen

  • Make it “Like New” Again
Restore your kitchen and appliances to like-new condition by tackling their interiors and exteriors. For cabinets, use microfiber cloth and cleaning solution appropriate for their surface. For grimy stovetops, ovens and microwaves, create a paste of warm water and baking soda and scrub with a microfiber cloth to remove stuck-on food.
  • Eat-Off-the-Floor Clean
Make it your mission to vacuum every piece of dirt and debris off your kitchen floor, from tile grooves to cabinet baseboards. Mop with a battle-tested mixture of one half-cup vinegar to a gallon of warm water for a natural, spotless clean! For extra-stubborn stains, a microfiber cloth and fresh batch of baking soda paste will do the trick.

Bedrooms

  • Five-Star Hotel Room Clean
Five-star hotel rooms are notoriously clean. To achieve that feeling at home, start with your mattress, vacuuming every inch of it (top, bottom and sides). Use a microfiber cloth or duster to reach difficult places, like behind the headboard and the bedframe. Lastly, launder the mattress cover and then reassemble a fresh, clean bed.
  • Dusting the Decor
Leave no sentimental artifact un-dusted this spring. Take your trusty microfiber cloth to every cherished (but dust-collecting) item on your dresser, nightstand or bookshelf.

Bathrooms

  • Deep Cleaning the Ins and Outs
Three areas are frequently forgotten: doorknobs, the in- and outside of your bathroom vanity and medicine cabinets, and the shower doors or curtains. Scrub fixtures, doorknobs and shower doors and curtains with lemons. Wash vanity drawers or cabinets using warm water and a microfiber cloth.
  • Like-New Light Fixtures
The light fixtures and fans in bathrooms can take a beating from steamy showers. Use a microfiber cloth to remove dust and polish them back to their out-of-the box condition. And make sure you never touch a hot light bulb!
