Local Entrepreneur Acquires Valpak of Central Iowa

Des Moines Businessman to Assume Ownership of Territory that Includes Ames, Des Moines and Windsor Heights Counties

August 15, 2017 // Franchising.com // ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Valpak, a leader in local print and digital coupons, announced today that its Central Iowa territory has been acquired by local entrepreneur Matthew Goodman. Goodman plans to mail his first Blue Envelope of savings this month to approximately 160,000 households across communities including Ames, Des Moines and Windsor Heights.

An Iowa native, Goodman is a graduate of Iowa State University and holds a master’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. During his time at college, Goodman purchased and managed a local gyro stand and was widely known as the “Gyroman” on campus. The success of his late-night food stand led him to pursue his second food business venture, Superdog, and soon after, Goodman developed a local Mexican-grill restaurant, The Fighting Burrito, which he currently serves as president and CEO.

Goodman brings more than 20 years of marketing experience to his newest business venture with Valpak, and has plans to leverage his local networks to expand additional partnerships with businesses across Central Iowa.

“I am excited to leverage my branding experience to elevate the Valpak brand in both the quality of creative as well as in the diversity of our offers. We want everyone to love opening this envelope,” said Goodman. “Being a local business owner for nearly 25 years, I can attest to the significant role that direct mail and digital marketing offerings has played in my businesses. Now, as a Valpak franchisee, I look forward to providing area residents the savings they love, along with expanding our partnerships while educating other local businesses about the vast suite of technology that modern Valpak has to offer.”

A leader in cooperative direct mail, Valpak mails coupons to nearly 37 million demographically targeted households per month in 47 states and three Canadian provinces. In addition to its flagship Blue Envelope, Valpak offers its business customers an impressive portfolio of digital advertising products including valpak.com, Smartphone apps, Google partnerships, website development, mobile web optimization, and reputation management.

“Matthew has a tremendous knowledge of marketing and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him to the Valpak family,” said Greg Courchane, director of franchise sales for Valpak. “He has a passion for his local community and will be a terrific asset to businesses throughout Central Iowa.”

With more than 25 million Americans using couponing apps each month, Valpak's digital offerings have been a big draw for new franchisees. Digital coupon use is on the rise, and ample gains are projected in 2017. In the past year, Valpak's print offerings have also expanded with on-envelope advertising and circulars.
