Scooter’s Coffee Founder Don Eckles Mentors Franchise Partner Julian Young

March 14, 2018 // Franchising.com // Omaha, Neb. - Scooter’s Coffee, a drive-thru franchise that is on track for another record-breaking year of growth, is weeks away from opening a new location featuring a dynamic background story. The grand opening is rooted in mentorship, a belief in community and economic prosperity for all.

Three Christmases ago, Scooter’s Coffee co-founder Don Eckles received a phone call out of the blue from Julian Young, an ambitious young man looking to make a difference in his North Omaha community. In the beginning of 2018, the pair’s passion to revitalize North Omaha will come to fruition when they open a Scooter’s Coffee on North 30th Street at Ames Avenue.

Julian Young will operate this location as the franchise partner with the guidance of Don Eckles’ continued mentorship. The two come from different backgrounds, but share the same goals.

“The new North Omaha location will continue Scooter’s Coffee’s strategic commitment to deliver specialty coffee to loyal and new customers,” says Eckles. “This store will serve as a stimulus to create community empowerment and job training in an underserved market for coffee sales and job opportunities. Julian and I have painstakingly developed this concept and we believe this investment will be a win-win for everyone involved.”

Julian Young is a North Omaha native who created the Start Center, a non-profit dedicated to providing work opportunities and training to members of the Omaha community. Young has an unwavering desire to change the fortunes of his neighborhood. He envisions this new Scooter’s Coffee location as an inspiration to budding entrepreneurs.

“For too long there’s been a migration of dollars from our community into other parts of the city,” says Young. “The opening of the Scooter’s Coffee location at 30th and Ames will serve as a reminder that our dollars are just as valuable as the dollars of other segments of the Omaha population. We are going to create an environment that not only creates business opportunities but cultivates future business owners.”
