Local Entrepreneur Brings Hawaiian Sensation to Southern California

New DTLA Location Launches with Massive “Mahalo” Giveaway

May 23, 2018 // Franchising.com // LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The wait is over in Los Angeles. The City of Angels can finally savor the taste of Hawaiian fish tacos like never before.

Coconut’s Fish Cafe, the famed home of Hawaiian fish tacos and the wildly popular phenomenon that has become an unquestioned sensation on the mainland, is opening its doors this week in Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA). This commences the brand’s emergence into Southern California, underscoring the significance being placed on further expansion in the region.

Situated in Downtown Los Angeles’ revitalized residential, shopping and entertainment district at Hill and 8th Streets, Coconut’s Fish Cafe seats 80 indoor and has heated outdoor seating for up to 20 guests. Parking is also available adjacent to the restaurant.

“This neighborhood is absolutely buzzing with energy. We’re completely in sync with how the area is developing, bringing our unique Aloha to DTLA,” said Michael Phillips, founder and CEO of Coconut’s Fish Cafe, whose family still owns and operates the original locations in Maui, Hawaii and Sacramento, California. “When you look around at the community, it is clear that we’ve joined something very special right here and couldn’t imagine a better location for sharing our passion for great food, friendly atmosphere, and endless Aloha.”

The DTLA cafe is the third cafe in California, joining the Sacramento and Cupertino locations. It is the second franchised Coconut’s Fish Cafe in the state. Adding to the excitement about Coconut’s in the area, the brand plans to open three more Coconut’s Fish Cafes in metropolitan Los Angeles during the next three years.

Since the 2009 opening of its first location, Coconut’s has provided guests the opportunity to enjoy a variety of flavorful fish tacos, sandwiches and salads made with the freshest ingredients. Plus, the restaurant features vibrant colors, custom surfboard tables and Hawaiian décor that enrich the atmosphere.

This opening comes as the brand continues its ascension as a sought out concept with consumers, franchise investors and shopping center operators. In addition to Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, Northern California and Hawaii are all primary growth territories for Coconut’s Fish Cafe. Qualified franchise investors are sought in each market.

Grand Opening Event Awards $50 Gift Certificates to first 50 In Line

During the location’s grand opening, this Wednesday, May 23, Coconut’s Fish Cafe in DTLA will be celebrating unlike ever before. To thank the local neighborhood, or to say “Mahalo” (thank you in Hawaiian) for the warm welcome it has received, Coconut’s Fish Cafe is giving the first 50 people in line at the new location a $50 gift card to the restaurant.

“The spirit of Ohana, or family, is something we hold near and dear…and that means that when we are so graciously accepted into the neighborhood that we must return the gesture,” added Phillips. “This giveaway is just one way we are welcoming our community in – it will be very clear how tied we are to those that we live and work near.”

Coconut’s Fish Cafe has become a sensation. The fish taco cafe has a culture and flavor that commands a global fan base, consistently topping best-food lists, receiving widespread food-critic acclaim and winning over the hearts of discerning customers who have made it a top restaurant on Yelp and TripAdvisor.

Coconut’s offers value to its customers unlike any other concept. Nowhere else is fish of such high quality offered at such an affordable price. In fact, at upscale restaurants, the same pieces of fish are sold for $40 or more.

The Los Angeles location is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. To learn more about Coconut’s, visit www.coconutsfishcafe.com or call (213) 628-3263 for additional information.
