Northern Virginia Almost Became the Land of the Lost Toys!

Local Good Samaritan Saves the Day!!

November 15, 2018 // Franchising.com // MANASSAS, Va. - A local entrepreneur helped save the holiday for thousands of local children by donating 20 large storage containers for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s annual Christmas toy drive.

For the past 70 years, more than 250 million children have received toys through Toys for Tots. But, the charity was scrambling for another business to provide storage and transportation after its long-standing partner, Toys R Us, closed.

Instead of throwing a big shindig to celebrate the grand opening of his new UNITS® Moving and Portable Storage franchise, Eric Miller donated 20 large UNITS brand containers all over Northern Virginia for people to drop off their donations for the Toys for Tots Foundation in Quantico.

No ribbon cutting. No fancy ceremony to announce the new business. Just a goodwill gesture at a time when all of us could use some holiday kindness.

“I would much rather we introduce ourselves to the community by being out there helping. It’s important we give back, and children are the biggest part of our future,” said Miller, who has supported Toys for Tots for the last 26 years by offering his other businesses (McDonald’s, sweetFrog, uBreakiFix) as drop-off locations. “These gifts help make the holidays so tremendously joyous for the children, and the Marines need help getting it done.”

Containers of Kindness

So far, Miller has placed 16-foot, clean, UNITS brand containers at the locations listed below, and he’ll add more as new local business partners come on board. When the UNITS brand containers fill with toys, UNITS drivers will swap them out and deliver the filled container to the Marines’ warehouse in Fredericksburg, where the massive toy operation continues.

“The help and support we are getting from Eric and UNITS is not only relieving us of the logistical burden of picking up and transporting toys from all these locations, but it means we are spending a lot less money on trucks and gas, which means we have more money to spend on buying toys for children, which is our mission,” said Wilma Vaughn, Assistant Coordinator for Quantico Toys for Tots.

Miller’s UNITS Moving and Portable Storage franchise, located at 7425 Merritt Park Drive, Suite 115, in Manassas, serves Northern Virginia, DC and part of Maryland.

The company provides the same logistical convenience it’s supplying for Toys for Tots to all its customers. The high-quality, UNITS brand containers, featuring barn-style doors and all-steel construction, may be placed in a UNITS Moving and Portable Storage service warehouse or at the customer’s desired location — always at ground level for easy access. UNITS brand containers can also be transported at the time and place of the customer’s choosing. Miller’s UNITS business even offers a robotic delivery system — the most technologically advanced in the industry — which allows movement in small spaces and virtually eliminates any shift in contents when lifting containers on and off transport vehicles.
