Local Restaurateurs with More Than 40 Years Industry Experience Open Fourth Firehouse Subs Restaurant in Madison

September 10, 2019 // Franchising.com // MADISON, Wis. - Firehouse Subs announces the grand opening of its fourth restaurant in Madison, Wisconsin, at 2907 University Ave, #206. The restaurant will open its doors to the public on Wednesday, September 4, under the ownership of Firehouse Subs Franchisees Eric Erwin, Don Davey and Scott Anthony.

Firehouse Subs serves a variety of hot specialty subs, piled high with premium meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh daily in-restaurant and steamed together to bring out the ingredients’ natural flavors, served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments. In addition to its signature subs, the restaurant offers a variety of catering options from sandwich and dessert platters to salads and snacks to fuel any occasion.

This will be the fourth restaurant in Wisconsin for these business partners. Erwin is the Area Representative for the state, working since 2012 to identify and mentor new franchisees to develop the area, now totaling 20 Firehouse Subs restaurants. He’s worked in the restaurant industry for more than 40 years. Davey grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and played college football for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He went on to play five seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Davey fell in love with Firehouse Subs as a defensive lineman for the Jacksonville Jaguars and was determined to bring the brand to his home state of Wisconsin. After retiring from a 10-year NFL career, he partnered with Anthony and Erwin to bring the national restaurant chain to Central Florida and Wisconsin. Anthony has been with Firehouse Subs since 2003 and now owns and operates more than 15 restaurants in Wisconsin and Central Florida with Erwin and Davey.

“I am very proud to expand the presence of my favorite restaurant in my home state of Wisconsin,” Davey said. “Our delicious food, heartfelt service and commitment to the community through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation are my way of saying thank you to all of the fans who cheered for me during my days with the Badgers and the Packers.”

“We are so passionate about everything this brand stands for: from welcoming customer service to outstanding flavorful food,” Erwin said. “The Madison community has been so supportive of our restaurants, and we are thrilled to open the newest Firehouse Subs restaurant in town.”

These business partners are dedicated to sharing the brand’s commitment to giving back through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which has granted more than $714,000 in Wisconsin. A portion of every sale at any Firehouse Subs in the U.S. benefits the Foundation, allowing the Foundation to achieve its mission of providing lifesaving equipment, funding and education to first responders and public safety organizations across the country.

The Madison Firehouse Subs restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. It will offer third-party delivery and in-house catering services to accommodate occasions of all sizes, from office meetings to family gatherings.

Founded by former firefighting brothers, the restaurant décor reflects the founding family’s decades of fire and police service with gear and photos donated by the local fire department. It includes a custom, hand-painted mural by Chief Mural Artist Joe Puskas, featuring local heroes from the Madison Fire Department outside of Camp Randall Stadium. The mural also shows Davey and Ron Dane, a Heisman trophy winner, carrying legendary football coach Barry Alvarez on their shoulders. Since the opening of the first Firehouse Subs in 1994, Puskas and his team have painted more than 1,170 murals from his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.

In 2005, the Firehouse Subs founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, lifesaving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. The 501(c)(3) Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has granted more than $44 million to hometown heroes in 49 states, Puerto Rico and Canada. Each restaurant recycles five-gallon pickle buckets, available to guests for a $2 donation to the Foundation. Donation canisters on register counters explain the nonprofit’s mission and collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. All funds raised benefit the Foundation.
